Memorial Day laptop sales are heating up. As one of the biggest retail holidays of the year, we expect to see a multitude of Memorial Day laptop sales on everything from budget Chromebooks to Apple's newest MacBook Pros.

Laptops are often among the most in-demand products during seasonal sales, so it's no surprise that Memorial Day sales typically include a lot of new laptop deals. And that's a good thing for shoppers because it means retailers are competing to offer the deepest discounts.

However, it's worth noting that sales may be different this year. Inflation is causing the price of items to skyrocket and chip shortages are still wreaking havoc in the tech industry. So this year we're going to be extra meticulous about the laptop deals we choose to cover.

Each sale we list will be price checked, analyzed against that item's previous price history, and highlighted only if it's a true price low. Likewise, we're going to actively look for deals on value laptops, Editor's Choice machines, and laptops we own or highly recommend.

Below we've rounded up the best early deals along with some laptop buying advice if you're uncertain what you're looking for.

Prime Day vs. Memorial Day laptop sales

While Memorial Day is an excellent time to buy a new laptop, we now know that Prime Day will be celebrated in July 2022. That begs the question — are Prime Day laptop deals better than Memorial Day laptop sales? Prime Day deals tend to focus on Amazon hardware, such as Fire tablets, Echo speakers, and Fire TV Sticks. Sure, there will be laptop deals on Prime Day, but Memorial Day will offer a bigger assortment of laptop deals because the retail holiday will be celebrated by Amazon and multiple other retailers. (By comparison, Prime Day is mainly an Amazon event).

When is Memorial Day 2022?

Memorial Day is traditionally held on the last Monday of the month. This year, Memorial Day will be celebrated on Monday, May 30. The federal holiday is in honor of military personnel who've died while serving in the U.S. armed forces. The holiday also marks the unofficial start of summer.

Memorial Day and laptop sales

Memorial Day has proven to be one of the best times of the year to buy a new laptop. Retailers from Amazon to Walmart offer sitewide discounts on all types of laptops. Whether you're in the market for a cheap student laptop or looking for a MacBook Pro sale, if you can wait till Memorial Day — we recommend making your laptop purchase then.
