One of the biggest games of the regular season is getting the White Out treatment at Happy Valley. The college football campaign may be young, but this elite showdown — a rematch of last year's Big Ten title game and a possible preview of the national championship game — carries major selection committee implications.

Not only will the White Out make for one of the best atmospheres in college football, but Penn State have had a bye week to make their preparations. Both factors should favor the Nittany Lions and neutrals alike, because James Franklin's horrendous history against heavyweight opponents has come to define the program.

Under Franklin, Penn State have gone 2-17 against AP top-six teams, and are on a 14-game losing streak in such fixtures. They'll never be taken seriously until they address this. There's a sense, however, that the Nittany Lions are undercooked. They're yet to play a power conference opponent, but QB Drew Allar and RBs Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen have still been slow out of the gates.

The Ducks' 4-0 record, on the other hand, includes statement 69-3 and 34-14 road victories over Oklahoma State and Northwestern, with QB Dante Moore and TE Kenyon Sadiq impressing. However, Dan Lanning and OC Will Stein had no answer for Ohio State's Jim Knowles-coached defense in the Rose Bowl in January, and you can't argue with Penn State's defensive record, however feeble their opponents. They've surrendered just 17 points across three games.
