Finding your dream headrest is not as tricky as you might think. Explore our guide to the best pillows we've tested this year to find the right pick for you.

Can an unsupportive pillow really ruin your sleep? As a bedding tester, I always tend to give products the benefit of the doubt over the first few days, because a pillow’s performance is based on a range of different factors such as your sleeping position, room temperature, the materials used and so on.

It’s also natural to stick with a new pillow even when it feels like it’s not working for you, since a) you’ve spent the money; b) it may be highly rated online; and c) you don’t want to go through the hassle of finding another. Truth is, you’re just prolonging a problem.

My recent experience of testing one of Amazon’s bestselling pillows wasn’t all sugar and spice. The affordable Beckham Hotel Collection Down-Alternative has over 250,000 rave reviews on Amazon, but it proved to be insufficient for my sleep.

So I decided to switch to Avocado’s Molded Latex Pillow for a few nights, which is designed to be consistently supportive and comfortable. The result? I just didn’t want to go back to the Beckham.

Here, I’ll dive into the details of what the Avocado Molded Latex pillow is, its benefits, and why it's the one of the best Black Friday bedding deals to shop now. Let's get started...

Avocado Molded Latex Pillow: Price & trial

  • Starting price is $139 for a standard size
  • Currently on sale up to 30% off for Black Friday
  • Generous sleep benefits including a 100-night trial and one-year warranty

Just like the brand's flagship Avocado Green Mattress, the Avocado Molded Latex Pillow is made from high-quality certified organic materials, which justifies its premium price tag. The pillow is available to buy in three sizes (standard, queen and king) starting from $139.

Additionally, latex mattresses and bedding, known for their natural temperature regulating properties and durability, are often the most expensive sleep products in the market. This is largely due to its organic nature and production costs involved.

Fill: Charcoal-infused latex core
Best for: Side and back sleepers
Firmness: Firm
Warranty: One year
MSRP: from $139 at Avocado

For reference, our favorite luxury pillow – the Saatva Latex – is priced at $165 for a standard size. Another example is the Sleep Number NaturalFit pillow which starts from $189.99.

The Avocado Molded Latex Pillow is quite reasonably priced in comparison, and it comes with a great package of sleep benefits too, including a 100-night trial (like our top pillow brand in the guide, the Coop Sleep Goods), one-year warranty and free shipping.

Also, while you can often spot these with up to 20% off during Avocado mattress sales, it is now 30% off for Black Friday— which drops the price of a queen pillow from $149 to $119.

Unboxing my Avocado Molded Latex Pillow

  • Arrives at full size
  • No expansion time required
  • No fluffing needed

The Avocado Molded Latex Pillow came in a cardboard box and covered in a thin plastic bag. It arrived at full size, ready to be slept on.

Because it's made from a single block of charcoal-infused latex core, encased in a GOTS-certified organic cotton cover, you don't have to fluff it up or wait for it to expand. All that's left to do is to try it out.

This differs from some brands who vacuum pack their pillows.

My first week of sleeping on the Avocado Molded Latex Pillow

Night 1: Consistent support helped me sleep through the night

As hinted above, trying out the Avocado Molded Latex pillow was the last way of confirming my worries about the Beckham Hotel Collection Down Alternative and how it was ruining my sleep.

To give you some context: while I didn't (thankfully) struggle with any aches or neck pains, my sleep was mercilessly disrupted on many nights by the Beckham pillow's unsupportive build.

I woke up multiple times to find that the plush pillow had flattened under the weight of my head during the night. It required constant re-fluffing and adjustments, especially for a combination sleeper (side and back) like me who changes positions during the night.

Going from that, I felt the difference instantly with the Avocado Molded Latex pillow. It securely stayed in place, provided consistent support throughout the night and that 'squishy' responsive feel of the latex, which I particularly loved for side sleeping.

After a week

After a whole week of sleeping on it, I would say the pillow has delivered on the claims made by Avocado. It's comfy, supportive and is perfect for side and/or back sleepers who need a firmer feel to their pillow.

However, even though Avocado terms it as 'firm', it cannot be compared with the solid build of the Tempur-Neck, our best pillow for side sleepers with neck pain, which is made from a single block of the ultra-firm and instantly pressure-relieving Tempur foam.

The Avocado is more on the 'bouncy' side, since it's an all-latex pillow. Stomach sleepers may find it too tall and would be better off with a low-loft soft pillow. Our stomach-sleeping tester recommends the Tempur-Cloud, which rightfully fits the bill.

The Avocado Molded Latex pillow is also specially crafted to combat overheating. The charcoal infused in the latex core, doubles up the temperature regulation benefits and controls odor and moisture build-up, working in tandem with the GOTS-certified soft organic cotton cover, for cool comfortable sleep.

Avocado Molded Latex Pillow: My early thoughts

Overall, it's quite obvious that the pillow single-handedly saved my sleep overnight. It largely delivers the claims made by the brand, making it worth every penny of the premium price tag ($139 for a standard size).

This illustrates how cheaper may not always mean better. We've always advocated for spending extra on good sleep products that enable you to enjoy the best rest possible, if they fall within your budget, and the Avocado Molded Latex Pillow is one of those picks.

While we need more time to fully assess the performance of the pillow, from our first impressions we'd recommend it to side and back sleepers, combination sleepers who alternate between these positions, and to anyone who's prone to overheat or who struggles with night sweats.
