IKEA’s new smart home sensors have arrived early in the US — here’s what we know

IKEA has certainly come a long way from its budget-friendly home furnishings and storage solutions, and is now making waves for its clever smart home devices.

The brand has just released four of its five smart sensors ahead of its original launch date of January 2026. And while IKEA had announced 21 smart home gadgets in November for the European market, it hadn’t yet shared the official pricing and availability in the U.S.

IKEA's new smart home sensors

So what can we expect? The new smart releases include a window and door sensor that can alert you whenever a window is left open or closed. This comes in handy if you forget at night and is a useful security measure.

Perhaps my favorite handy gadget is the water leakage detector that essentially lets you know if there is a leak in your home. Not only will this eliminate the risk of flooding in your kitchen or bathrooms, but it could also save you money on utility bills.

Other gadgets include smart bulbs and motion light sensors. These can also connect to 10 other light sources (via the app) if you want to go for a more integrated, smart lighting system.

Have you ever forgotten to close a window? Well, this is a must-have gadget. This clever sensor lets you know if a window or a door is open or closed by sending handy alerts. Simply add it to a smart hub to get real time notifications on your phone. What's more, this can easily be installed into spaces like walk-in closets, and it can also trigger a light to turn on or off.

Avoid messy puddles on the floor with this smart water leakage sensor. Simply connect to the hub and the sensor sends a notification to your smartphone if there’s a leak detected. If (like me) you've ever had a leak behind your dishwasher or washing machine, this is definitely a brilliant gadget to have. Plus, will save you on expensive callouts in the long run.

If you want to avoid stumbling around in the dark, these motion sensors will ensure you always have light. You opt for either day or night mode and can set it to automatically turn off up to five minutes. What's more, these can be connected to up to 10 light sources at once via the smart hub.

IKEA ALPSTUGA Air quality sensor

Worried about the quality of your air? This smart monitor will detect and display the air quality by measuring particles such as carbon dioxide, and temperature. It will let you know if you have poor quality, and recommended to use alongside an air purifier. Additionally, you can set the time and use it as a clock, which is always handy.

This early arrival will come as good news to IKEA gadget fans, as all are Matter-compatible. Meaning that you can easily integrate the range with your existing smart home devices — via HomeKit, Alexa, SmartThings, Google Home, or even Home Assistant.

What’s more, these handy sensors are versatile, and start from just $7 — so they won't break the bank.

Kajplats smart bulb collection

The fifth gadget set to be launched is the Kajplats smart bulb, designed to fit into any IKEA lamp to give it a premium upgrade.

From what we know so far, it comes in eleven different styles, sizes and lumen levels — with options for both color and white spectrum. Plus, these smart bulbs are dimmable which is ideal for winding down at the end of a busy day.

However, those looking to get their hands on the Kajplats smart bulb collection will have to wait a little longer. But we'll keep you posted on the exact pricing and availability as soon as we can.
