PlayStation’s Wireless FlexStrike Fight Stick is coming — these are the 9 best (and cheapest) PS5 fighting games worth getting
Prep your PS5 fighting game collection before PlayStation’s new fight stick arrives
Without fighting games, my life would feel a whole lot emptier.
The stress and salt that come from hopping online for ranked matches, getting destroyed by a stronger opponent, and watching them run away from a rematch can crush my soul. But the unbridled joy that comes with learning a new character, mastering their best combos, and ranking up with them online is second to none. Growing up in those smoky arcades and evolving into the veteran fighting game player I am today feels amazing.
Speaking of amazing, that’s the word I’ve seen associated with the PlayStation’s soon-to-be-released Wireless FlexStrike Fight Stick from those who’ve taken it for a spin. Pre-orders for this PS5/PC-enabled peripheral went live today (June 12) and are set for launch on August 6 (the same day Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls releases!)
If you’re like me and are in the mood to bash some buttons on that 1st-party fight stick once it releases, then you need to get one or all of these PS5 fighting games (which just so happen to be top-of-the-line picks and affordable).

Best PS5 fighting games
Street Fighter 6 is a triumph thanks to features like World Tour mode and control schemes accommodating casual and advanced players. This is unquestionably one of the best fighting games of 2023 and one of the strongest entries in the long-running franchise.

Tekken 8 is a classy fighter that wisely never takes itself too seriously. Sweeping and silly, it uses cutting-edge graphical tech to deliver an experience that is both bruising and beautiful. However, it has too many self-indulgent story mode cutscenes.

Guilty Gear Strive is the latest entry in the long-running series and it’s indeed a banger. Sol-Badguy, Dizzy, Slayer and the rest of the game’s incredibly named roster shine with a jaw-dropping anime art style. This anime fighter’s mechanical evolution has been so fun to watch from season to season.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is a fighting game for fighting game fans, thanks to its deep gameplay mechanics and diverse character roster. Offering a slew of single-player and multiplayer modes, this game has something for just about everyone.

This anime brawler’s visual aesthetic is beautiful, the 3v3 team-based clashes play great and the rollback netcode makes those online matches perform as smoothly as possible. Putting together your winning team of nothing but Goku’s and pulling off every manner of Kamehameha you can imagine never gets old.

While there isn’t a whole lot of single-player content to enjoy, the game’s rollback netcode has proven to be strong enough to handle your hours-long casual/ranked match sessions. There’s a lot of fun to be had here as you master your three-person team and end a match with one of those satisfying “Climax Super Special Moves.”

Familiar faces like Omni-Man, Conquest and Battle Beast pull up to the battlefield to tear each other apart and drop gallons of blood every step of the way. The fast-paced fights, stable rollback netcode and short (but sweet!) cinematic story mode do enough to make Invincible VS worth mastering.

Pocket Bravery is one of those fighters made by an independent development studio that understands what made the best games in the fighting game genre work so well. What’s on offer here is a decent single-player offering (it has a story and arcade mode!), plus rollback netcode that makes all your online matches feel like you’re playing someone right next to you.

Them’s Fighting’ Herds stands out as one of the best indie fighting gams (the developers behind this are making Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game too, so you know it’s going to be good!). We never knew we wanted a fighting game starring all manner of goat, bull, deer, etc.
