Steam Controller is sold out! Skip the eBay scalpers and grab one of these 12 alternatives instead
Don't pay $300 for a Steam Controller
The Steam Controller might just be the most hyped PC gaming controller launch of all time, and unfortunately, that means it sold out in minutes when it went on sale this week.
Now, the next generation of Valve's PC controller is selling on eBay with some asking prices as high as $300 (crazy considering the controller retails for $100).
We don't know when the Steam Controller will restock, but here's hoping those of us who want one don't have to wait too long. That said, if you don't want to wait for a restock, I've chosen 12 alternatives that are all in the upper echelon of PC gaming controllers.
Whether you want a Steam Controller for TMR thumbsticks, low-latency 2.4Hz wireless gameplay, back paddles, or those awesome trackpads, you'll find a controller below that's in stock and capable of fulfilling some (but not all) of those needs.
So why pay scalper prices or wait for a restock when you can have an excellent gaming experience on PC with one of the 12 alternatives found below?
Steam Controller chaos
I was lucky enough to snag a Steam Controller when it went on sale yesterday, but within minutes, I noticed listings appear on eBay as gamers swarmed social media with complaints about the ordering process.
I knew the Steam Controller would be popular (some people have been waiting a decade for a new one), but I didn't think the PC gamepad with trackpads would cause hysteria in this way.
In fact, I managed to buy one a couple of minutes before the official launch time, which made me think it would be an easy purchase for anyone willing to fork out the $100 RRP. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
Now, scalpers are listing pre-orders for exorbitant prices on platforms like eBay, and honestly, no one should be lining those pockets by paying 3x for a controller that is likely to be back in stock in the coming months, if not weeks.
Valve is on to a winner with the Steam Controller. In our Tom's Guide Steam Controller review, my colleague Tony said, "The Steam Controller is a nearly perfect PC game controller thanks to its fantastic design, solid performance, simple pairing and charging, and extreme level of customization."
I can't wait to try the Steam Controller, but honestly, if you can't get your hands on one for that $100 price tag, you should opt for one of the alternatives I've listed above.
