As far as streaming services go, HBO Max is home to some of the buzziest movie titles of the year, from "Sinners" to "Materialists" to "Weapons" and beyond. But it has an ever-changing selection of high-profile films and TV series. Like most streamers, new titles get added to the mix every month, and December 2025 is no exception, which could mean you might miss some gems along the way.

One such gem —an uncut gem, if you will — is "Good Time," a gritty 2017 crime caper starring Robert Pattinson and directed by filmmaking duo Josh and Benny Safdie. The brother-directors have since creatively split, with the former preparing to present his Timothée Chalamet-led ping pong epic "Marty Supreme" and the latter currently promoting the Dwayne Johnson UFC drama "The Smashing Machine." "Good Time" is an instantly iconic thriller from the siblings, centered on a career-defining performance by Pattinson.

One of the best A24 movies, "Good Time" sees former "Twilight" teen dream Robert Pattinson in a fantastic career departure as small-time bank robber Constantine "Connie" Nikas, who embarks on a desperate and chaotic odyssey through the dangerous New York City underworld to raise bail money and break his developmentally disabled brother (played by co-director Benny Safdie) out of prison.

With the film's action taking place over the course of a single night, Connie encounters a variety of unsavory characters along the way, from fellow criminals to his much-older girlfriend Corey (Jennifer Jason Leigh). The "Good Time" cast also includes Buddy Duress, Barkhad Abdi, Necro, Taliah Lennice Webster and Rose Gregorio, among others.

Prior to "Good Time," Robert Pattinson was best known for his turns in family-friendly and teen-focused fare like "The Twilight Saga" and the "Harry Potter" franchise. However, his electrifying character work in the Safdies' film successfully ushered the actor into more adult, auteur-focused work with the likes of Claire Denis ("High Life"), Robert Eggers ("The Lighthouse"), Christopher Nolan ("Tenet") and, most notably, Matt Reeves as the titular superhero in 2022's "The Batman."

Along with praise for what is widely considered a "career high" for Pattinson, the crime thriller overall received widespread love from critics for its kinetic, fast-paced energy, colorful characterization and arresting visual style.

Over on Rotten Tomatoes, where the caper has an excellent 91% approval rating, the site's critical consensus reads: "A visual treat filled out by consistently stellar work from Robert Pattinson, 'Good Time' is a singularly distinctive crime drama offering far more than the usual genre thrills."
