HBO Max just added 67 new shows and movies to the streaming service yesterday (Dec. 1). That's a lot to sort through, and by far the most HBO will add on a single day this month. But don't worry, I've already singled out five shows and movies to start streaming right now, before checking out the rest.

Most of these are highly rated. "Girls Trip" is a beloved comedy, and "Mad Men" is considered one of the greatest shows ever made. But even I couldn't resist adding "Wedding Crashers" to this prestigious list. It's one of my favorite comedies ever, despite its sophomoric premise.

My top picks

'Girls Trip'

"Girls Trip" stars Regina Hall as acclaimed author Ryan Pierce. She wants to reconnect with her old friends, so she plans a girls' trip to Essence Music Festival in New Orleans. Coming with her are Sasha (Queen Latifah), Lisa (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Dina (Tiffany Haddish).

Unsurprisingly, this trip turns into chaos, including an absinthe-fueled hallucination. But despite the craziness, it's still undoubtedly a good time, and you'll struggle not to die laughing as you watch it. Heck, you'll struggle not to die laughing watching the trailer.

Chances are you've heard of "Mad Men", even if you haven't seen it. Thanks to some brilliant writing and some incredible performances, this show about working in advertising on Madison Avenue in the 1960s is considered one of the best shows ever made. It's also produced some meme-worthy lines that you've probably seen on social media.

However, this show's lasting legacy might be that it launched Jon Hamm into stardom. In "Mad Men," he stars as Don Draper, a creative director and partner at the fictional Manhattan advertising agency Sterling Cooper. Across seven seasons, the show chronicles the life of Don, as well as his shadowy past. Will it catch up to him as the 1970s approach? Binge the whole series now to find out.

'Ne Zha'

If you're like me, you had never heard of "Ne Zha" before this year, when "Ne Zha 2" became the biggest global movie of 2025 and the biggest animated movie of all time. Honestly, there's a real chance you've never heard of it till just now; despite making over $742 million at the box office, it's mostly a hit in its native China.

But now that it's on HBO Max, there's never been a better time to check it out. In "Ne Zha," the titular hero is a young boy named Ne Zha (Jordan Cole [English dub], who is discovered to be the reincarnation of the demon orb, and prophesied to destroy the world. His powers quickly leave him ostracised by the townsfolk of his hometown, Chengtang Pass, until the arrival of Ao Bing (Aleks Le [English dub]) leaves Ne Zha the only one who can save his home — and the world.

'Perfect Blue'

If you're not a fan of Japanese animation, then you might be inclined to skip over "Perfect Blue." But trust me, this psychological thriller is up there with the best in the genre. Don't believe me? Just ask director Darren Aronofsky, who took inspiration from it for a scene in "Requiem for a Dream," and whose movie "Black Swan" has been frequently compared to this 1997 classic.

"Perfect Blue" is centered around Mima Kirigoe (Junko Iwao [Japanese]/Ruby Marlowe [English]), a well-known member of a Japanese idol group who suddenly retires from music to pursue an acting career. This upsets her fans, including Me-Mania (Masaaki Ōkura [Japanese]/Bob Marx [English]), who starts to stalk her obsessively. When she finally lands a large role in an upcoming film, the combined stress of the life she left behind, her new life, and her obsessive stalker, causes her to crack and begin a downward spiral that may not have an end in sight.

'Wedding Crashers'

"Wedding Crashers" stars Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn as best friends and divorce mediators, John Beckwith (Wilson) and Jeremy Grey (Vaughn). Their job isn't their main passion, though. No, that would be showing up to weddings, uninvited, and sleeping with as many women as possible.

However, they've now crashed a wedding that may be more than they bargained for: the wedding of the eldest daughter of U.S. Treasury Secretary William Cleary (Christopher Walken). They score an invite back to the Cleary compound in Maryland after the wedding, where John falls in love with Claire (Rachel McAdams) and Claire's sister, Gloria (Isla Fisher), falls in love with Jeremy. The premise for this romantic comedy may be crude, but the cast is incredible. Trust me, you don't want to skip this movie if you've never seen it before.
