Jess (played by Diane Kruger) is a mother of three. Her youngest, Betsey, is taken hospital with a head injury. Her friend Liz (Jo Joyner) is an ER nurse at the hospital but something about Jess's behaviour convinces her to involve social services and, almost inevitably therefore, the police.

Shocking discoveries are made and secrets hidden amongst the rest of the friend group fracture the connection between the mums. The almost too-perfect-to-be-true life of Jess is revealed to be something else entirely and the tension builds until the final episode. Lives are changed forever by Jo's decision to make that call.
