7 top new shows I'd stream this week on Netflix, Hulu and more (Oct. 13-19) [clone]
New TV this week includes 'The Diplomat,' 'Murdaugh: Death in the Family' and 'Mr. Scorsese'

Crisp air may be rolling in, but the small screen is heating up as new TV shows premiere on Netflix, Hulu and other streaming services, as well as cable and broadcast channels.
"The Diplomat" season 3 ratchets up the political games, while "Murdaugh: Death in the Family" pulls viewers into a dark, real-life saga. Film lovers can’t miss "Mr. Scorsese," a revealing portrait of the man behind some of cinema’s most iconic moments. And the final season of "Solar Opposites" delivers its signature brand of offbeat, interstellar humor. Here's our guide on the top new TV shows to check out this week.
‘Solar Opposites’ season 6 (Hulu)
Get ready to say goodbye to Earth’s quirkiest invaders. “Solar Opposites” returns for its final season, which finds the Shlorpians flat broke. With their diamond-making machine toast, Korvo, Terry, Jesse, Yumyulack and the ever-evolving Pupa must figure out how to live a budget life without their expensive toys.
Meanwhile, the tiny citizens of The Wall face their most shocking, high-stakes showdown yet. Expect the usual mix of absurd schemes, sci-fi shenanigans, fart jokes and pop-culture references, but this farewell mixes alien antics with surprisingly heartfelt questions about family and identity.
All 10 episodes premiere Monday, Oct. 13 at 12 a.m. ET on Hulu
‘Splinter Cell: Deathwatch’ (Netflix)
Sam Fisher is back — older, grittier, and still deadly. “John Wick” creator Derek Kolstad shepherds this animated series based on the popular video game franchise. It follows the legendary Fourth Echelon operative (voiced by Liev Schreiber) out of retirement and into a web of old enemies, new conspiracies and high-stakes stealth ops.
Canon to the games but with fresh twists, the show lets longtime fans and newcomers alike step into Fisher’s shadowy world without missing a beat.

‘Loot’ season 3 (Apple TV Plus)
Maya Rudolph isn’t done skewering billionaire life in the third season of her comedy. When we last saw Molly Wells, she’d confessed her feelings to Arthur (Nat Faxon) — only to get shot down mid-kiss — and then hopped on a jet to anywhere-but-here.
Now, she and Nicholas (Joel Kim Booster) are stranded on a deserted island and let’s just say survival isn’t exactly in their skill set. Back home, the Wells Foundation crew keeps the ship afloat, while guest stars like D’Arcy Carden, Kesha and Henry Winkler drop by to stir things up.
Episodes 1-2 premiere Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 12 a.m. ET on Apple TV Plus
‘Murdaugh: Death in the Family’ (Hulu)
Inspired by the breakout “Murdaugh Murders” podcast, this miniseries takes the Southern Gothic nightmare that’s made headlines and transforms it into a pulpy, prestige drama. Jason Clarke and Patricia Arquette lead as Alex and Maggie Murdaugh, pillars of a South Carolina legal dynasty whose glossy world unravels after son Paul (Johnny Berchtold) is tied to a fatal boat crash.
Enter journalist Mandy Matney (Brittany Snow), whose dogged reporting peels back layers of corruption, cover-ups and murder. “The result is a chilling portrait of a family that’s undone by its own secrets.
Episodes 1-3 premiere Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 12 a.m. ET on Hulu
‘Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy’ (Peacock)
This limited series drama revisits one of America’s most chilling true crimes. Based on the 2021 docuseries, it delves into the dual lives of John Wayne Gacy (Michael Chernus): the charming neighbor and the killer behind the clown makeup.
From “Dr. Death” creator Patrick Macmanus, it’s a haunting look at the victims, investigators, and families forever changed, and the societal blind spots that let evil hide in plain sight.
All 8 episodes premiere Thursday, Oct. 16 at 3 a.m. ET on Peacock
‘The Diplomat’ season 3 (Netflix)
When season 3 kicks off, the twisty political thriller picks up mid–mid-constitutional crisis and doesn’t stop to catch its breath. The president is dead, Grace Penn (Allison Janney) is suddenly commander in chief, and her husband, Todd (new cast member Bradley Whitford), is already testing out his “First Gentleman” smirk.
Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) is stuck living the nightmare of getting what she asked for, while Hal (Rufus Sewell) happily plots her path to the vice presidency. But old secrets, more international intrigue and messy marriage issues threaten to upend the new world order.
All 8 episodes premiere Thursday, Oct. 16 at 3 a.m. ET on Netflix
‘Mr. Scorsese’ (Apple TV Plus)
“Mr. Scorsese” isn’t so much a documentary as it is a five-hour hang with Marty himself — equal parts film school, therapy session, and nostalgia trip. Rebecca Miller’s five-part documentary series opens up the vault, weaving Scorsese’s own stories with a murderer’s row of voices: De Niro, DiCaprio, Spielberg, Schoonmaker, Mick Jagger.
The result is a portrait that’s warm, funny and just self-mythologizing enough. Sure, it’s a little reverent, but when the guy basically is American cinema, who’s going to argue? Bring a cannoli and a Criterion subscription.
All 5 episodes premiere Friday, Oct. 17 at 12 a.m. ET on Apple TV Plus
