If you’re looking to watch some Prime Video movies over the weekend, you’ve picked a great time. The streaming service always adds loads of flicks on the first of the month, and even better, has an exciting original offering as well.

If, like me, you think we don’t get enough pirate movies these days, Prime Video has just the ticket. A new action-thriller set in the world of seafaring criminals and buried treasure. Plus, some of the new library titles are cinema classics, including a psychological thriller that won an Academy Award in all five major categories. An impressive feat that no movie has since matched.

I’ve scrolled through the Prime Video library ahead of the weekend to save you wasting your precious streaming time looking for something to watch, and these are my top three picks of the new arrivals.

‘The Bluff’ (2026)

I rarely recommend Prime Video original movies. To be frank, the average quality of Prime-produced films has been poor for years. That makes “The Bluff” a rare, but very welcome, exception. This new pirate-themed action-thriller has its faults, but its swashbuckling highs do enough to overcome the weaker moments, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Karl Urban do a great job as hero and villain, respectively. Though be warned, this is a surprisingly brutal pirate adventure with some wince-inducing, very bloody action scenes.

Set in the late 19th century, during the dying age of piracy, Ercell Bodden (Chopra Jonas) is a former pirate, once known as “Bloody Mary,” and now living in peace on a tropical Caribbean island with her family. She might be done with her cutthroat past, but the past, or more specifically Captain Connor (Urban), isn’t done with her. When Connor and his crew come looking for revenge, Ercell must return to her old ways to protect her loved ones.

Ask a movie buff to pick their favorite Terry Gilliam movie, and don’t be surprised if the answer is “12 Monkeys.” Gilliam has a real eye for sci-fi, as he proved with 1985’s “Brazil.” A decade later, the acclaimed filmmaker and member of Monty Python returned to the genre, delivering a bleak vision of the future that has fascinated genre fans for decades. Oh, and if you enjoy a good plot twist, wait until you learn the shocking reveal contained in this film.

Set in the year 2035, humanity has been driven underground by a deadly virus that wiped out almost the entire population some forty years prior. The last remaining scientists are desperately seeking a cure, and the secret to unlocking it is time-travel. Prisoner James Cole (Bruce Willis) is set back in time to find crucial information on how the virus started. In the past, Cole meets Jeffery Goines (Brad Pitt), who he suspects may have created the virus.

‘The Silence of the Lambs’ (1991)

Some movies need little introduction, and “The Silence of the Lambs” is one of them. This Best Picture-winning psychological thriller is a masterpiece, and its influence can still be felt on countless thriller shows and movies to this day. Speaking of its Oscar wins, it’s the most recent to scoop the so-called “Big Five." That's Picture, Director, Actor, Actress and Screenplay. Remarkably, Anthony Hopkins won his Oscar for his iconic turn as the villainous Hannibal Lecter despite having just 16 minutes of screen time.

A serial killer, nicknamed Buffalo Bill, is loose on the streets of Baltimore. With the authorities struggling to identify him, FBI trainee Clarice Starling (Foster) is tasked with interviewing Hannibal Lecter (Hopkins), a brilliant but twisted inmate at a criminal psychiatric hospital. Starling’s job is to create a profile of Buffalo Bill with Lecter's help, but the cannibalistic doctor doesn’t offer his services for free and draws Clarice into a twisted game of “quid quo pro.”
