Get these new Prime Video movies in your weekend watchlist
The weekend is upon us, and that means it’s time to get down to some serious movie-watching business. There are plenty of worthwhile options across the best streaming services, but Prime Video is ready to tempt viewers with a strong slate of new movies added in recent weeks.
I’ve combed through the platform’s new additions and found three movies that are certainly worth watching this weekend. My selections offer a little something for everyone as well, from a blood-splattered sci-fi thriller with loads of exciting twists to a wistful British drama that’s bursting with gentle comedy, and there’s even a movie that’s perfect for the whole family.
If you’re looking for a few movies to watch on Prime Video this weekend, these are my top three picks. But if you need even more options, we’ve also got a full guide to everything new added to Prime Video in October 2025.
Best movies to watch on Prime Video this weekend
‘Companion’ (2025)
“Companion” is a wonderfully subversive thriller with a neat sci-fi twist. The directorial debut of Drew Hancock (who also wrote the flick), it’s an easy recommendation this weekend, particularly if you enjoy movies that constantly flip the script in unexpected ways. In fact, “Companion” is so laden with surprise reveals that it’s actually a little tricky to talk about why I like this movie so much for fear of giving away major spoilers. Perhaps the 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes will be enough to convince you to add “Companion” to your Prime Video watchlist right now.
As noted, I’ll be somewhat vague here to avoid spoilers, but “Companion” centers on Iris (Sophie Thatcher) and Josh (Jack Quaid), who seem like the perfect couple, with a charming meet-cute story to match. However, when they travel to a remote lakeside house for a weekend getaway with Josh’s friends, things quickly unravel as hidden truths come to light, and soon enough, the situation gets bloody. Thatcher is particularly fantastic in the lead role of Iris.

‘The Ballad of Wallis Island’ (2025)
I expect many households will be spending the weekend watching horror movies, it is Spooky Season after all. However, if you’d prefer to stream something that will warm your soul, rather than chill your spine, “The Ballad of Wallis Island” is a wonderful comedy-drama with a trio of strong performances at its core. British comedian (and co-writer) Tim Key is particularly excellent as a superfan of a folk duo reunited on a remote island. Best of all, this charming movie, infused with emotionally-charged folk songs, will have you listening to its soundtrack for weeks after watching.

“The Ballad of Wallis Island” sees Tom Basden and Carey Mulligan play estranged members of a folk music act, McGwyer Mortimer, who are reunited by an oddball superfan, Charles (Key), to play a one-off gig on the remote Wallis Island. While preparing for the very intimate concert, they reminisce about their time in the spotlight, but old tensions and unresolved feelings also resurface. While there’s certainly a melancholic edge to proceedings, “The Ballad of Wallis Island” is a joyful celebration of music and the importance of human connection.

‘Migration’ (2023)
Weekends are a great time to get the family together for a movie night, and “Migration” is a perfect, seasonally appropriate pick that offers something for viewers of all ages. This animated adventure comes from Illumination, the same studio that created the infamous Minions, but fear not, this movie isn’t quite as headache-inducing as those little yellow pests. It may not break new ground for the animated family movie genre, but it’s a colorful adventure that sees its main mallard cast learn a few simple but important life lessons
In “Migration,” a family of ducks living in New England decides to escape the increasingly cold seasonal weather by migrating to Jamaica. However, the first-time trip proves rather more difficult than expected, and they’re blown off course, ending up in the hustle and bustle of New York City. Stranded in this unfamiliar place, they meet new friends and face a few hurdles along the way. With pleasant comedy, lots of adventure, and some strong voice performances from a talented cast, “Migration” doesn’t break new ground, but it's very enjoyable nevertheless.
