5 new to Paramount Plus movies with 90% or higher on Rotten Tomatoes
Five acclaimed movies that came to Paramount Plus this month

Like all the best streaming services, Paramount Plus is constantly bringing us new movies and TV shows to stream each and every month, and August is no different. But with so many new titles being added all the time, it can be difficult to find the stuff you can't afford to miss ... which is where I come in.
I've taken a look through the full list of everything that's being added to Paramount Plus this month and pulled out five critically acclaimed titles across a range of genres that have each earned at least a 90% rating (or higher) on the review aggregator, Rotten Tomatoes. If a movie crosses that threshold, chances are it'll be worth watching.
This month, you can look forward to a truly original comedy, a tense period thriller, and plenty of criminal thrills. Here are the five new to Paramount Plus movies you should watch in August 2025.
'Adaptation' (2002)
Spike Jonze's Oscar-winning unique comedy sees Nicolas Cage taking on the role of Hollywood screenwriter, Charlie Kaufman, as the writer takes on a new assignment: adapting Susan Orlean's non-fiction book "The Orchid Thief" for the big screen.
As he groans under the weight of his work, Cage's Kaufman grapples with writer's block, personal loathing, and the presence of his twin brother, Donald (also played by Cage), and all of their lives grow intertwined, with unpredictable (and often hilarious) results.

'American Hustle' (2013)

"American Hustle" is a swaggering 1970s-set black comedy crime movie based on the real-life FBI sting operation, and it should make for engaging viewing, not least because it boasts such a strong ensemble.

We're taken back a few decades and introduced to brilliant con artist, Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), and Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams), a glam grifter with whom he's struck up a personal and professional relationship. When an FBI agent (Dominic Cooper) catches them in a scam, they're forced into an elaborate scheme to nab corrupt public officials.

'Love and Monster' (2020)
Michael Matthews' "Love & Monsters" is a spirited post-apocalyptic adventure that follows Joel Dawson (Dylan O'Brien) on a cross-country odyssey in search of his high school girlfriend after reconnecting with her over the radio waves. The problem? Well, "Love & Monsters" is set seven years on from the "Monsterpocalypse", wherein giant creatures took over the planet, and the humans who survived were driven underground.
Despite the danger that's lurking on the surface, Joel nevertheless commits to his reckless quest and embarks on an 80-mile journey to the colony where Aimee (Jessica Henwick) is holed up.

'The Town' (2010)
Ben Affleck's intense heist movie takes us to Boston's Charlestown neighborhood for a gritty crime thriller that throws us in with Doug MacRay (Affleck) and his crew, who carry off daring heists. Problems arise when Doug — who has always dreamt of leaving his criminal past behind — falls for Clair Keesey (Rebecca Hall), a bank employee that Doug's gang briefly takes hostage.
And as Doug's torn between his loyalty to his crew and the chance at a fresh start with Claire, the FBI steps up their efforts to bring Doug and co. in. There's action, there's character, and plenty of thrills in store.

'Zodiac' (2007)
Completing my Paramount Plus round-up for August is "Zodiac," David Fincher's tense thriller that documents the real-life manhunt for the infamous killer who terrorized the San Francisco Bay Area
The movie draws from Robert Graysmith's books on the search, and throws us in with investigators and reporters who grow obsessed with unmasking the murderer and try to bring him justice, all while the Zodiac killer taunts the authorities and continues to claim more lives. It's equal parts compelling and chilling, and deserves a spot on your watchlist.
Genre: Thriller
Rotten Tomatoes score: 90%

Martin is a Streaming Writer at Tom’s Guide, covering all things movies and TV. If it’s in the theaters or available to stream somewhere, he’s probably watched it… especially if it has a dragon in it. Before joining the team, he was a Staff Writer at What To Watch where he wrote about a broad range of shows that stretched from "Doctor Who" and "The Witcher" to "Bridgerton" and "Love Island". When he’s not watching the next must-see movie or show, he’s probably still in front of a screen playing massive RPGs, reading, spending a fortune on TCGs, or watching the NFL.
