15. MaPower Combo MAP-H31C2: Heavy And Expensive

At 750 g the Combo MAP-H31C1 Mapower is the heaviest enclosure in the test. The power supply and connection cable weigh just under 1 kg to which you have to add another 400 g for the 3.5" hard drive. That's a lot to lug around for a mobile drive. For more than $129, the customer gets a model with FireWire800 and USB 2.0 ports. A 3.5" hard drive with IDE interface fits inside the enclosure, managing an average 24 MB/s via USB 2.0. If the combi-drive is addressed via IEEE1394a, however, the data rate sinks to 10 MB/s. Other test computers and IEEE1394 cables failed to push the 10 MB/s envelope.
