13. Lindy ME-720F2U2: Pricey IEEE1394b Enclosure
The third enclosure from Lindy does without the Serial ATA interface, preferring USB 2.0 and both IEEE1394 variants. All three Lindy enclosures are practically identical in appearance, differing only in their choice of interfaces. Even the packaging is standard across the range. Only an extra sticker indicates the model's features.
The ME-720F2U2 enclosure with IEEE1394b is noticeable right away with its whopping $170 price tag. Considering that nary a motherboard offers this interface, or may require a refit, the price is definitely inflated. USB 2.0 manages an average 25 MB/s data transfer rate. FireWire400 caused our controllers huge problems. A maximum 10 MB/s was measured with the HDTach benchmark, a mere third of its potential speed. The connector shape had no effect here.
