7. Wireless Features

Before I dive into the AOSS feature, let me first recap the WBR2's other wireless features. The Wireless settings (Figure 8) have been reorganized and a number of new features added.

You now get controls for disabling Frame Bursting (default enabled), i.e. Broadcom's Xpress throughput enhancement, and 802.11g Protection (also default enabled), which makes sure that 11g stations can hear slower 802.11b clients. Wireless mode selection has also been greatly simplified into choices for Mixed (default), 11g-only and 11-b only and you can now adjust transmit power in 25% increments.

Buffalo has also added what it calls a Client Monitor feature, but it only shows clients who lease IP addresses via the WBR2's DHCP server. It does indicate whether each client is Wired or Wireless in addition to its IP and MAC address info, however. This, along with the Traffic Information page that presents packet count data, at least now lets you quickly see who's attached to your router - if they're getting their IP info from you, that is.
