Gmail Suffers Second Outage in a Week
It seems Google has decided to end the week the way it began with users reporting they’re having trouble accessing their Gmail accounts and and Google Apps.
At the beginning of the week both Gmail and MobileMe experienced outages however, MobileMe users being quite used to outages at this stage, it was Gmail users that were the most surprised.
Google issued a formal apology on Monday and said that they had identified the problem and it had been fixed. However, while the company assured us that we needn’t worry about the 502 error we’d been getting, the company didn’t detail what actually went wrong.
Google said in the apology that the reason they were blogging about the issue was because a lot of people were feeling the affects of the outage. Gmailers began experiencing the same problem (the 502 error) late Thursday and it seems the problem has been continuing well into Friday.
There’s been no official word from Google yet as to how long it will be before this issue is fixed. The last outage, however short lived, affected a lot of users and complaints are flooding in on the official Gmail and Google Apps forums with users who have been experiencing problems since Thursday.
We’ve been able to log into our Gmail accounts just fine but we’ll keep you updated on any statements from Google.

Could be related to the Georgia/Russia issues. The Georgian government moved their sites to google servers to deter Russian hackers and now all these problems. There is much talk in the community about returning the gesture to the Russian hackers.
