8. Toward Improved Security

With its incredible success, Facebook has unfortunately fallen victim to security flaws. Even if less than 0.002% of the network’s members have been affected by a virus so far, it should be taken seriously. All victims have been alerted and sent instructions for eradicating it. Facebook is a highly exposed site since it harbors many details about one’s private life, including professional information, photos, etc.

Beware of Strangers The way it works is well known: a mysterious contact sends you a message inviting you to download a program (disguised as a video, for example). Be very careful whom you accept as a new friend on Facebook, and pay special heed to the messages you receive in your Facebook Inbox. These simple precautions should be enough to make your surfing on the network safe.

The site’s security team promises to quickly inform users about any new viruses. Facebook has no other choice, really, than to guarantee the invulnerability of its members’ personal data if it’s to consolidate its highly envied position as the worldwide leader in the social-networks sphere.
