Last chance! REI's winter sale ends today — save up to 30% on Patagonia, Arc'teryx, Merrell now
Although Black Friday madness has officially started, there's only one major sale I'm obsessed with right now: REI's holiday sale. Every winter, REI slashes the prices on its bestselling winter apparel, and this year is no different.
I've found discounts on brands like Patagonia, Arc'teryx, Columbia — on winter clothes that you need at this time of year. No swim shorts you can't wear until next summer — this is all down-filled insulated jackets, thermal mid-layers, and boots.
Some of my favorite deals include the Patagonia Re-Tool Hybrid Jacket for just $179, down from $299, and the new-and-improved Merrell Moab 3 hiking boots for just $123.

About the author

I'm Erin, and I love hiking. In 2023, I summited Mount Fuji wearing my Patagonia Torrentshell and R1 Fleece, with my Columbia hiking backpack, and my Merrell Accentor boots. I wouldn't have had it any other way. Now, I review hiking gear for a living!

I personally own this fleece — and I am obsessed with it. It's so warm, snuggly, and cozy. It keeps warm in like no other. I'd describe it like a more affordable Patagonia Synchilla, so if you were after the premium version, the Columbia Helvetia will be the perfect option for you. It's on sale in all colors, although the pattern shades are $62, rather than $59.

The Patagonia Better Sweater is iconic for a reason. This super-soft, lightweight and versatile jacket is perfect for layering or wearing on its own during milder days. Right now, it's available in sizes XS-M in just the pictured brown color. Like you might expect from Patagonia, it's made from 100% recycled materials and is backed up by hundreds of 5-star ratings on REI.

This is the updated Merrell Moab 3 style, with even more comfortable insoles and even gripper outsoles. With contoured footbeds and recycled materials, this is the iconic hiking boot at the top of its game. Of course, they're waterproof as well, and ideal for rugged outdoor adventures.

Ideal for winter, the Patagonia Retro Pile Half Snap Pullover is super cozy and warm. The cuffs and hem are reinforced with stretchy elastic, so it'll keep the warmth in without irritating your skin. Of course, it's made from 100% recycled polyester. The best part? It's still available in every single size.

This jacket is the perfect combo of style and function. I'm obsessed with the cropped hem, but don't think that means this is a drafty coat. Thanks to the insulated hood, baffles, and the 600-fill down insulation, this is a jacket suitable for both the peaks and the streets. It's available in all colors — black, white, blue, and orange — in most sizes.

The Patagonia Re-Tool Hybrid Jacket is the ideal fleece-slash-jacket for fall and winter. It's insulated with 60g PrimaLoft Gold recycled polyester and constructed from super-soft Re-Tool fleece, which means it's really, really warm. Take this with you on winter camping trips or city excursions for ultra-cozy vibes. It's still available in 3 sizes in this gorgeous green color.

If you know Arc'teryx, you know how premium (and therefore expensive) its stuff is. So if you think $315 is still expensive for a jacket, well, you'd be right... but also, it's Arc'teryx. Arc'teryx is renowned for its technical and aspirational gear, and the Thorium Down Jacket is no different. With 750-fill down and a synthetic down mix, the Thorium will keep you warm even in the coldest temperatures. It's also finished with DWR — even better.

At $349, I know this is still an objectively pricey coat. But if you know Arc'teryx gear, you know it's truly the best of the best, and I'd say $349 is a pretty fantastic deal. This coat will keep you warm even in Arctic conditions thanks to the goose and synthetic insulation mix, and the down is placed extra-thick in areas that attract moisture or need extra insulation.

If you know Arc'teryx, you know its stuff doesn't come cheap. So when I saw this deal, I gasped. A calf-length down-insulated hooded parka made by Arc'teryx for just $489? This is a massive saving of over $200. Sure, it's still expensive, but Arc'teryx is the best of the best. You won't get a better insulated coat for cheaper.
The jacket has a mixture of goose down and synthetic down for lightweight insulation, and the shell is abrasion-resistant so will stay looking fresh and brand-new for years to come.
