What's so different between 1979 and 2025? Where do you start? The former was the year Margaret Thatcher became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and a time so far before woke and current sensibilities that only a man who shares his surname with a prehistoric creature that went extinct around 10,000 years ago would do for this role.
This brilliant 'fish out of water' sitcom works precisely because it serves as a reminder of all that we are agreed has no place in the modern world (such as, racism and sexism both casual and intentional) but also some of the old stuff we wish was still here (such as the Ford Capri Mk II 1.3 and brilliant theme TV title music)*.
* Incredible fact: Mammoth’s theme music is composed by Mike Post, the man behind classic TV show themes including The Rockford Files, The A-Team, Magnum P.I. and Hill Street Blues.

'Mammoth' season 2 - Episode Guide
Season 02 Episode 01: Following a panic attack, Tony Mammoth (briefly) decides to get healthy. At the gym, he’s confronted by his nemesis, Terry Keane. His previous traumatic experience gears him up to get revenge on Terry by signing up to a rival over-70s football team. With the help of Roger, he gets fighting fit to be ready for his day of destiny. Meanwhile, Mel decides to quit her job and follow her 'dream' - becoming a professional potter.
S02 E02: Mammoth turns into the protective father figure when Mel goes on a date with a new man, Matthew. But he quickly starts to adore him (mainly on a whim). Whilst trying to develop the world’s strangest bromance, he takes his self-appointed role as head of PE very seriously until the pressure gets too much. Mel isn’t feeling it with Matthew, and Theo revels in his new bad-boy image.
S02 E03: Tony Mammoth’s life is sweet until his boss and headteacher Mr Cowley is signed off from work with stress. With little sensitivity and thinking purely of maintaining his easy work life, he does whatever it takes to de-stress him and get rid of the younger, popular and eminently more professional temporary headteacher. Mel arranges a big 18th-birthday party for Theo, who desperately wants his mum to stop treating him like a four-year-old.
