We’re now halfway through “From” season 4, with the fifth episode dropping today. That’s right, this gripping series is flying by, and before we know it, the finale will be on our screens. So far, though, season 4 hasn’t wasted any time diving into the horrors of the town while also revealing some intriguing secrets. Most of all, we’re finally learning more about the time travel twist introduced at the end of season 3. Hannah Cheramy’s Julie is now at the centre of it all, embarking on a dangerous mission.

In season 4, the town faces total chaos following the Man in Yellow’s arrival and Jim’s (Eion Bailey) death. A future version of Julie, sporting short dark hair and facial scars, has emerged as a "storywalker." She desperately attempts to use time travel to prevent her father’s murder, but she ultimately realizes she cannot change a story already told.

Cheramy plays Julie Matthews, the teenage daughter of Jim and Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) and older sister of Ethan (Simon Webster), struggling to hold her fractured family together inside the nightmare town of Fromville. She begins to fully step into her “storywalker” ability, slipping through time to witness key moments she can’t change, while desperately trying to understand the town’s rules and protect the people she loves.

I had the chance to sit down with Cheramy to talk about her character’s risky time-travel mission to find Jim, as well as her reactions to reading fan theories about her storywalking abilities.

During the interview, I asked Cheramy whether she likes to read fan theories online or purposely avoids them, and if she’s come across any that made her think fans might be onto something.

I really like all the theories about why Julie is the chosen one, and why she’s the one who can storywalk and not others.

“I don’t really avoid them, per se. I’ll scroll and they’ll pop up, and I’ll watch them. I don’t really go on Facebook or Reddit or anything like that, but if I’m on TikTok and something comes up on my feed, I’ll check it out. There have been so many — I’m honestly just not smart enough to fully comprehend the levels people go to with this show. I love it, it’s just so crazy.

But yeah, I really like all the theories about why Julie is the chosen one, and why she’s the one who can storywalk and not others. Everyone seems to have their own different versions of why that might be.”

“From” is exactly the kind of show built for online theorizing, largely because it withholds answers and drip-feeds information instead of laying out clear rules of its world. That ambiguity has only intensified with Julie’s confirmed time-travel/storywalking abilities, which reframes earlier events and opens up even more questions about how the town actually works. I also asked Cheramy about her increasingly desperate mission to save her dad, and how it's impacting Julie emotionally.

“Yeah, I mean, ‘desperation’ is a perfect word for it. She doesn’t even have full confidence in herself. She’s just completely driven by a need to get him back. She’ll accept any risk or whatever comes with it, even if that means her own life ending. She’s just so tunnel-visioned on this.”

“Even though she knows what it’s doing to her and the people around her — like Randall, and having to force him to help her and watch what’s happening to her — she knows it’s hurting him, but she just sees no other alternative than to do what she’s doing.”

“From” season 4 is streaming on MGM+. New episodes arrive weekly on Sundays through to the series finale on June 28.
