We are living in a world with more podcasts than people. Obviously, that’s not true, but it does feel like the podcast landscape is oversaturated. Frankly, anyone can create a podcast.
Now that podcasts have proven to be significant revenue machines, celebrities are getting in front of mics and cashing in. Athletes, on the other hand, see podcasts as a chance for a career off the field.
Despite the crowded market, I’m a sucker for a good sports podcast. You can only listen to music for so long. I’m good for one to two podcasts a day, especially during the week. If you’re looking for a few sports podcasts, here are some solid programs to add to your lineup.
‘Pardon My Take’
When exploring the podcast charts, one program has remained in the upper tier since 2016, and that’s “Pardon My Take.” Presented by Barstool Sports, Dan “Big Cat” Katz and PFT Commenter put their unique spin on the world of sports. What started as a satirical take on sports talk shows — “Pardon the Interruption” and “First Take” — has evolved into a hangout show where fans can shoot the breeze about anything, from game results to fantasy football with Jerry O’Connell.
Sports can be serious, but they’re also supposed to be fun. You’d be surprised by how many sports shows need to loosen up. “Pardon My Take” does not have a problem there. The hosts believe in self-deprecation. Big Cat and PFT will even pee in their pants for a laugh. Now that’s dedication.

‘The Bill Simmons Podcast’
If your internet name was once “The Sports Guy,” then you’re the perfect addition to this list. Real Page 2 readers will know that the aforementioned nickname belongs to Bill Simmons, the founder and CEO of The Ringer. Simmons has been on the airwaves since 2007, but his Ringer show, “The Bill Simmons Podcast,” is why we’re here.

Nothing gets me going like watching an entire Sunday of football and then listening to Bill and Cousin Sal break it down at night in “Guess The Lines.” Bill’s strength is his versatility — he can serve as the host for a four-person roundtable about the NBA or give a 30-minute monologue about his favorite players in the draft. He’ll even slip in an insane hypothetical award — Peyton Manning being the athlete that television networks would cut to during any sporting event if he tried to escape the police after murdering his wife and a waiter. Congratulations to Peyton for winning the O.J. award!

‘Sharp or Square’
To all of my degenerate gamblers, this one is for you. I enjoy gambling on sports, especially football. By no means am I a professional. I’m the furthest thing from a high roller throwing around thousands on a nightly basis. I bet what I can because it’s fun — nothing beats the rush of a winning ticket.
Betting is a losing proposition for the majority of gamblers, but if I can educate myself on how to gamble, I’m better off in the long run. That’s where “Sharp or Square” comes in. Hosted by Chad Millman and professional bettor Simon Hunter, “Sharp or Square” takes viewers through each game in the NFL slate and talks through the bets they want to make. It’s entertaining and more importantly, educational. Just learning about terminology — sharp, square, fade, public side, pros vs. joes line, etc. — puts you in a better place to hopefully make an informed bet. And if all else fails, you can just bet on their picks and enjoy the ride.
“Sharp or Square” is part of The Volume podcast network.
‘The Ryen Russillo Show’
No podcaster is more married to the game than Ryen Russillo. Take solace in knowing that if the Hornets and Hawks are playing on a random Tuesday night, Russillo is taking notes. The former ESPN personality hosts “The Ryen Russillo Show,” a podcast where Russillo covers the NBA, NFL, and college football. If you like deadpan humor mixed with analysis, then Russillo is your guy.
Russillo always has great guests to talk about sports, but he’ll dabble in the world of entertainment — his interview with Tom Pelphrey made me love “Task” even more. Real Russillo fans know “Life Advice” and the “Travelogues” are where the real magic happens. Russillo is like your uncle — he can be a tough egg to crack, but once he starts talking, you want to hear every story.

‘What Do You Wanna Talk About? With Cody Rhodes’
“Wrestling has more than one royal family.” Fans will correctly associate that line with Cody Rhodes, one of WWE’s biggest superstars. Since his return to WWE in 2022, Cody has been arguably the company’s biggest babyface. When you’re the top guy, you get a podcast. That’s not exactly how the saying goes, but Cody is charismatic on the mic, so it makes sense for the company to give “The American Nightmare” a podcast.
“What Do You Wanna Talk About?” is predominantly a show where Cody’s fellow wrestlers describe their journey in the business and their current WWE storylines. Standout guests include Kevin Owens, Becky Lynch, and John Cena. However, my favorite episode featured Timothée Hal Chalamet, who called ECW One Night Stand his favorite pay-per-view and gave a shoutout to The Boogeyman. That’s a real fan right there.
