Spring is in full bloom, and this weekend has rolled out plenty of new films across major streaming services. But with so many options on offer, choosing what to watch next can turn into a bit of a struggle. As someone who regularly finds themselves doomscrolling, I know the frustration all too well.
That’s why I often dig through what’s new on streaming every week to surface the titles genuinely worth your time. This includes one of 2025’s forgotten dramas based on a true story, starring Rose Byrne in the lead role. Netflix also has a big release this month in the form of “Apex,” a survival thriller that sees a grieving woman become ensnared in a deadly game.
There’s also Timothée Chalamet’s critically acclaimed sports drama “Marty Supreme” arriving on HBO Max. If you still haven’t seen this quality pick from last year, this is your sign to check it out. So, let’s get straight into the best new movies streaming this weekend.

Rose Byrne continues her strong run with “Tow,” a project that highlights her ability to anchor complicated roles. While it initially plays as a comedic pursuit to get her beloved car back, the narrative gradually shifts into a more compelling story of resistance, with Byrne delivering a performance that alone makes the film worth watching. Based on a true story, it also stands as a striking example of standing up to the system.
“Tow” follows Amanda Ogle (Byrne), a homeless Seattle woman living out of her aging Toyota Camry, which serves as her only stability. When her car is stolen and impounded, she is hit with a massive tow bill and forced into a long legal battle against the towing company. With help from a young lawyer, Kevin (Dominic Sessa), she pushes through bureaucracy and pressure while trying to reclaim her vehicle and rebuild her life.

‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ (Prime Video)
Ahead of watching “The Conjuring: Last Rites” last year, it was noted that this franchise stands as the highest-grossing horror series of all time. I was already aware, but hearing it again before the final chapter added extra weight. The cinematic universe has undeniably made its mark on horror fans worldwide, myself included. While it may not match the white-knuckle intensity of the original, it still delivers a fitting farewell to the Warrens’ story.

“The Conjuring: Last Rites” follows paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) as they are drawn out of retirement to examine a disturbing case involving the Smurl family in 1980s Pennsylvania. As the Warrens investigate reports of violent supernatural activity inside the home, they uncover a dangerous presence linked to a cursed object with a long history. They have no choice but to confront the entity and bring the haunting under control.

‘Apex’ (Netflix)
Perhaps the biggest original release this month is “Apex,” a new survival thriller on Netflix that has No. 1 energy written all over it. I’ve been looking forward to this film ever since the first trailer dropped. It’s also directed by Baltasar Kormákur, a director well known for outdoor survival and adventure storytelling. His past work includes gripping, real-life inspired films such as “Everest” and “Against the Ice,” so I’m confident Netflix’s new thriller will be worth a watch.
“Apex” centers around Sasha (Charlize Theron), a grieving rock climber who travels alone into the remote Australian wilderness to escape her past. While overcoming steep cliffs and harsh landscapes, she becomes the target of Ben (Taron Egerton), a relentless hunter who begins stalking her through the outback. Sasha must rely on her climbing expertise and survival instincts to evade capture. But each encounter pushes both into increasingly extreme circumstances.

‘Marty Supreme’ (HBO Max)
One of the standout films to arrive at the end of 2025 was the sports drama “Marty Supreme.” Despite picking up several major Oscar nominations this year, it ultimately walked away empty-handed, one of the night’s biggest surprises given its strong awards-season momentum. Still, it’s absolutely worth adding to your watchlist this weekend, thanks in large part to Timothée Chalamet’s performance and the film’s striking visuals.
“Marty Supreme” follows Marty Mauser (Chalamet), a gifted New York table tennis player determined to become a world champion in the 1950s. Travelling from local halls to international tournaments, he pushes through financial struggles and a chaotic rise through the sport’s underground scene. As opportunities start piling in, Marty’s journey takes him across the U.S. and abroad, where he participates in high-stakes matches while chasing global recognition in the competitive ping-pong circuit.

‘No Other Choice’ (Hulu)
Director Park Chan-wook returns with a sharp, darkly funny thriller in the form of “No Other Choice.” It's a film unmistakably shaped by Park’s vision, confronting human identity at a moment when technology and the world are shifting faster than ever. This is certainly one of 2025’s most overlooked movies, and fortunately, its arrival on Hulu should help it reach a much larger audience over the weekend.
“No Other Choice” follows Man-su (Lee Byung-hun), a veteran paper industry expert who is suddenly laid off after decades of service. Struggling to find new employment, he grows increasingly desperate as he faces financial pressure and a shrinking job market. When conventional options fail, he begins targeting rival candidates connected to potential job openings, setting off a calculated chain of events across the industry.
