Prime Video top 10 movies — here’s the 3 I’m adding to my watchlist this weekend

Planning a Prime Video movie marathon this weekend, but not sure what to watch? Then the streaming service’s rotating ranking of the top 10 most-watched movies is a great starting point as it offers a snapshot look at the flicks currently drawing the most attention from fellow subscribers.
However, it’s not necessarily a promise of quality. I track the Prime Video top 10 every single week, and I’ve seen plenty of subpar movies claim a spot in the rankings. Case in point, the current No. 3 pick, “Love Hurt,” holds an abysmal 18% on Rotten Tomatoes. So don’t assume a movie finding its way into the Prime Video top 10 makes it a must-watch selection.
That’s why I’ve combed through the current Prime Video top 10 movies and have picked out the three entries worth your time. For more recommendations, check out our list of the top 10 movies and shows to watch this weekend on Netflix, Hulu and more.
Best movies in the Prime Video top 10
'Play Dirty' (2025)
Prime Video’s latest original has rocketed straight into the No. 1 slot, and it’s not hard to see why. It’s an action-thriller romp from director Shane Black, stars Mark Wahlberg in the leading role, and is based on the best-selling Parker novels by author Donald E. Westlake. That’s a combination that was always going to be well-received by Prime subscribers, and while it doesn’t live up to its full potential, it’s an enjoyable heist flick with thrilling moments and plenty of trademark Shane Black-style humor.
After being betrayed by one of his crew, expert criminal Parker (Wahlberg) has a score to settle. But when the double-crossing Zen (Rosa Salazar) approaches him with an enticing offer, Parker puts revenge on hold and teams up to pull off a seriously tricky heist. The reward is untold riches, but completing the high-stakes job will put Parker in conflict with a ruthless South American dictator, the New York mob and a powerful billionaire. Be sure to watch out for LaKeith Stanfield’s excellent supporting turn as Grofield.

'Wicked' (2024)
Have you already seen 2024’s big screen adaptation of the first act of Broadway smash hit “Wicked”? Probably. Does it deserve a rewatch? Without a doubt. In fact, I’ve probably rewatched this blockbuster musical more times than any other movie released in the last 12 months. Nevertheless, just seeing it in the Prime Video top 10 again has me itching to take another trip to Oz for the umpteenth time. Plus, now is a perfect time to (re)watch as “Wicked: For Good” flies into theaters next month, and I can confirm the show-stealing, gravity-defying finale still sends a shiver down my spine.

If you somehow missed the boat on the “Wicked” craze that has gripped the musical world for the last two decades, it tells the previously untold origin story of the Witches of Oz. Essentially, it’s a prequel to 1939’s “The Wizard of Oz,” and it’s pure cinema magic. It explores the early years of the Wicked Witch of the West (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda the Good (Ariana Grande), chronicling how they became friends at school before being torn apart.

‘Novocaine’ (2025)
If you’re looking for an entertaining action-comedy, “Novocaine” is just what the doctor ordered. It’s almost a superhero movie because its protagonist, Nathan Caine (Jack Quaid), has a condition that makes him unable to feel pain, and the flick takes that “ability” to seriously extreme levels. There are some narrative stumbles along the way, but if you’re willing to switch off your brain and embrace the chaos, it’s a near guaranteed good time.
Nathan Caine is a timid introvert, living a very sheltered lifestyle. But when his new co-worker, and perhaps the girl of his dreams, Sherry (Amber Midthunder), is kidnapped by a group of bank robbers, Caine sets out to rescue her and uses his lack of pain receptors to his advantage in increasingly creative and seriously implausible ways. “Novocaine” is very silly, but also a total blast with Quaid a charming lead.
