3 new to Prime Video movies you need to stream this weekend (Jan. 2-4)
These Prime Video movies should be in your weekend watchlist
If you’re looking for new to Prime Video movies to enjoy over the first weekend of 2026, then you’re in luck. The streaming service just added a whole bunch of flicks to its library as part of the Prime Video January 2026 slate, and I’ve combed through the list to find the best options.
Recently, Prime Video has added some of my favorite movies of 2025, and that trend continues this week. There's a hilariously silly spoof-comedy starring Liam Neeson, and the return of a horror franchise known for its over-the-top and very elaborate death sequences. The Amazon-owned streamer also just added the latest installment in my favorite film franchise ever, and sci-fi fans need to (re)watch it now.
If you’re putting together your weekend watchlist, here are three Prime Video new movie arrivals that you really should stream as soon as possible.
‘The Naked Gun’ (2025)
“The Naked Gun” is a prime example (pun intended) of a legacy sequel done right. This could have easily been another cheap Hollywood reboot of a once successful franchise, but it’s clear that 2025’s spin on iconic spoof series “The Naked Gun” holds great affection for its predecessors. While nobody can replace the hilarious Leslie Nielsen, Liam Neeson playing the son of Nielsen’s Frank Drebin proves to be inspired casting, as the gruff actor’s deadpan delivery is a perfect fit for “The Naked Gun’s” brand of silly, often slapstick, humor.
Set in the same universe as the originals, Lieutenant Frank Drebin Jr (Neesen) is tasked with solving a murder case with the fate of his beloved Police Squad unit hanging in the balance. Also starring Pamela Anderson as Drebin Jr’s love interest, Beth Davenport, “The Naked Gun” is a comedy movie that throws so many jokes at viewers in such quick succession that it doesn’t matter if a few fail to land, because the next one will be a winner. Look out for the absurd “snowman scene” (no spoilers!), which had me in complete stitches.

‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ (2025)
After an extended hiatus of almost 15 years, the “Final Destination” franchise returned in 2025 with “Bloodlines,” a movie that smartly retains what’s always worked about this gloriously gory series while adding in just enough new elements to not feel like a complete rehash. “Final Destination: Bloodlines” packs in all the elaborate death scenes the franchise is known for, and also opens with perhaps my favorite premonition sequence in any “Final Destination” movie to date.

As noted, the nuts and bolts of the story are similar to previous “Final Destination” flicks: a group of people survives a deadly disaster, only to be stalked by Death, who isn’t very pleased that several of its victims escaped their predetermined fate. However, the interesting wrinkle here is that the survivors are multi-generational, with the grandchildren of Iris Campbell (Gabrielle Rose), who was supposed to have died in a skyscraper collapse, the ones stalked by the unseen Grim Reaper. Watch out for a fitting, very emotional tribute to “Final Destination” mainstay, Tony Todd, who filmed his part before his death in November 2024.

‘Alien: Romulus’ (2024)
“Alien” is my favorite movie, and the iconic sci-fi franchise is my favorite series in all of cinema. So, I was an easy mark for “Alien: Romulus.” Heck, I even like the more divisive “Alien” movies like “Prometheus” and “Alien: Covenant.” Smartly, “Romulus” goes back to basics, focusing on the core thrills of a group of deep-space explorers being hunted down by the universe’s most lethal predator. There is definitely a little too much fan service thrown into the mix. Even a mega-fan like me didn’t need quite so many hamfisted references, but this is the most crowd-pleasing “Alien” movie since 1986’s “Aliens,” and that makes me very happy.
In “Alien: Romulus,” a group of colonist break into what appears to be an abandoned space station. Hoping to find valuable equipment to help them make a fresh start, they instead stumble upon sheer terror when they encounter a Xenomorph. Starring Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson and Isabela Merced, the cast is stuffed with rising stars. Jonsson is especially phenomenal as a reprogrammed android named Andy. Well, it wouldn’t be a proper “Alien” movie without a memorable android character!
