Paramount+ might be one of the streaming services people turn to least compared to Netflix and Prime Video, but the platform surprisingly has a stacked library of thriller movies. Considering this is a popular genre subscribers gravitate toward, it’s worth checking out Paramount+ for its lineup of mystery thrillers, ranging from compelling detective stories to twist-filled psychological mind games.

Of course, a stacked library means there’s plenty to choose from, but not all of it is worth your time. So if you’re looking for something gripping to stream this week, here are five of the best mystery thrillers on Paramount+ to add to your watchlist.

‘Sleeping Dogs’ (2024)

Starting off this list with a Russell Crowe movie you (probably) haven't seen, “Sleeping Dogs” is a murder mystery with a strong story. This isn’t your typical grounded crime thriller, though. It dives headfirst into chaotic, dreamlike storytelling, packed with absurd twists that somehow still work. The story is smarter and more layered than expected, carving out its own identity despite a few flaws. Not everything makes sense, but the filmmaker keeps you invested throughout, which is exactly what matters in a mystery thriller.

“Sleeping Dogs” follows Roy Freeman (Crowe), a retired homicide detective undergoing experimental treatment to restore his fading memory. When he is approached about a decade-old murder case involving a death row inmate, he begins re-examining the investigation he once led. As he revisits old evidence and tracks down people connected to the victim, fragmented memories start to return. He uncovers hidden connections and realizes the truth may be linked to actions he can no longer fully remember.

‘Gone Baby Gone’ (2007)

Watch On

"Gone Baby Gone" is a twisting thriller that’s both gripping and intimate. Casey Affleck leads the cast, while his brother Ben Affleck makes his feature directorial debut, delivering a film that goes beyond a typical detective story into intelligent, morally complex territory. The movie is packed with tense, hair-raising moments, culminating in a twist ending you won’t see coming. It’s meant to challenge the viewer to consider the price of doing what’s right, and whether the “right” choice is ever clear.

Private investigators Patrick Kenzie (Casey Affleck) and his partner Angie Gennaro (Michelle Monaghan) are hired in Dorchester, Boston, to find four‑year‑old Amanda McCready after she disappears from her home. With the police making little progress, the duo uses their local contacts to navigate the city’s dangerous underworld of criminals and suspects. After a botched exchange and false assumptions, they uncover surprising truths about the girl’s disappearance, forcing difficult decisions about her fate.

‘I See You’ (2019)

One of the most mind-twisting thrillers I’ve ever watched has to be “I See You.” This is a thriller that constantly keeps you guessing, flipping the story just when you think you’ve got it. Going in with little knowledge is ideal, though a little context won’t ruin it. The twists are smartly done, and watching it a second time makes the film even richer. Director Adam Randall crafted something unique here, treating the story itself as the main character, letting each new revelation shift everything you thought you understood.

“I See You” follows small‑town detective Greg Harper (Jon Tenney) and his family as he investigates the disappearance of a 12‑year‑old boy, a case that echoes a string of past abductions. While juggling the mounting pressure of the investigation and tensions at home with his wife Jackie (Helen Hunt) and son Connor (Judah Lewis), strange and unexplained events begin occurring inside their house. Objects vanish, doors are left open, and electronics behave oddly. When Greg digs deeper into the missing child case, the unsettling occurrences get worse.

‘Barron’s Cove’ (2024)

Watch On

Leaning more into revenge drama, “Barron’s Cove” is an intense, twist-filled movie that explores the raw impact of grief. At first glance, it could pass for just another dark thriller, but it keeps surprising by putting character and emotion first. It tugs at your heart and challenges your ideas of justice and revenge, without giving in to a happy ending. At the center of the story, Garrett Hedlund gives a gripping performance as a father driven by loss and rage.

Caleb Faulkner (Hedlund) is a working‑class man struggling to rebuild his life after his young son dies in a tragic incident. Frustrated when authorities dismiss the case, Caleb kidnaps Ethan (Christian Convery), a boy he believes was present at the time of his son’s death, and takes him to a remote lake house known as Barron’s Cove. As Caleb interrogates Ethan, a manhunt unfolds led by powerful figures seeking to control the situation. Soon, his search for answers exposes unexpected truths about his son's passing.

‘Switchback’ (1997)

Watch On

If you’re looking for something seriously underrated this week, “Switchback” should be on your watchlist. This thriller delivers an entertaining dramatic ride, even if it never quite became a classic. Much of its appeal comes from the strong cast, particularly Danny Glover and Jared Leto, whose performances create a very compelling dynamic. Nearly 30 years later, the film still holds up as a solid genre piece, with nostalgic charm and unique elements that make it well worth watching.

After his young son is abducted, FBI agent Frank LaCrosse (Dennis Quaid) travels to Amarillo, Texas, convinced a notorious serial killer is responsible and hiding in the region. Although removed from the official investigation because of his personal involvement, he continues pursuing leads, drawing the attention of local law enforcement, including Sheriff Buck Olmstead (R. Lee Ermey) and rival police chief Jack McGinnis (William Fichtner). Meanwhile, hitchhiker Lane Dixon (Leto) is picked up by the affable Bob Goodall (Glover), and their journey becomes entwined with the wider hunt.
