I’ve Been Waiting for the First Trailer for Netflix’s New Psychological Thriller With Keira Knightley for Months — and We Finally Got a Good Look at This Upcoming Movie
At long last, we have a trailer for Netflix’s ‘The Woman in Cabin 10'

It’s quite serendipitous that Netflix has finally dropped the first trailer for “The Woman in Cabin 10” this week. Over the weekend, I rewatched 2005’s “Flightplan” with Jodie Foster (two decades on, it remains fun but flawed), and this upcoming mystery thriller offers a similar concept, but swaps the airplane setting of the former for a seriously swanky yacht.
I’ve had my eye on "The Woman in Cabin 10,” adapted from the best-selling Ruth Ware novel of the same name, for ages, and after teasing us with first look images for several months, the world’s most popular streaming service has at long last offered up a good look thanks to this new two-minute trailer, and my hype levels are only increasing.
The trailer introduces us to Laura Blacklock, a journalist who boards a luxury yacht to cover its maiden voyage. It’s all sparkly dresses and cocktail receptions at first, but things take a serious twist when Laura spots a passenger being thrown overboard in the dead of night. If witnessing such a traumatic event wasn’t enough to ruin the three-day cruise, things take a darker twist when she’s told all the passengers and crew are accounted for and nobody is missing from the manifest.
But Laura knows what she saw and is steadfast in believing that somebody has been pushed into the vast ocean, and so she begins investigating. But as she searches for answers, she meets resistance from the powerful yacht owner, Richard Bullmer (Guy Pearce). And eventually fear and paranoia creep in as Laura becomes convinced she is now being targeted by the same sinister figure who committed the crime. But did she really see what she thought she did?
Everything else we know about ‘The Woman in Cabin 10’ on Netflix
As noted, “The Woman in Cabin 10” is a feature film adaptation of British author Ruth Ware’s popular page-turner, and will star Keira Knightley and Guy Pearce in the top-billed roles. Alongside that appealing A-list pairing, the thriller movie also features David Ajala, Art Malik, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Kaya Scodelario, David Morrissey, Daniel Ings and Hannah Waddingham.
Behind the camera, on directorial duties, is Simon Stone. Fortunately, the Australian filmmaker has a very solid track record. His previous movie was 2021’s “The Dig,” which was well-received by critics, and he also directed 2015’s “The Daughter” and an acclaimed anthology drama called “The Turning” (not to be confused with the terrible 2020 horror of the same name). Ware isn’t adapting her own novel for the big screen: Joel Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse penned the screenplay.
Of course, at this point, you’re probably asking one question: When can I watch “The Woman in Cabin 10” on Netflix? Good news, we have the answer. The thriller will debut on the streaming service on October 10. There’s no word on a limited theatrical release as of yet, so we can assume (for now) Netflix isn’t viewing this one as a potential awards player.

If the Netflix movie proves to be a breakout hit, and based on the evidence of this gripping first trailer, I suspect it’s going to rocket straight into the No. 1 movie spot, there is sequel potential. Ware’s follow-up novel called “The Woman in Cabin 11” (duh!) hit bookshelves back in July.
Much as I’m eager to get “The Woman in Cabin 10” in my Netflix watchlist as soon as possible, we’ve still got several weeks to wait until it’s available to stream on the platform. In the meantime, check out this roundup of the best psychological thrillers you can watch on Netflix now for some movies to tide you over (maritime pun intended) until mid-October.
