This week’s selection of new movies across the best streaming services is smaller than the packed selections we had throughout July. Fortunately, platforms like Netflix, Paramount+ and Peacock are here to ensure subscribers still have worthwhile new picks to consider.
The headliner this week is Netflix’s “The Last House,” a new original sci-fi thriller with a hooky premise, and two actors capable of acclaimed performances. Other noteworthy arrivals include “Evil Dead Burn” on digital, a charming rom-com on Peacock, and Billie Eilish fans will be delighted to see the singer’s new concert movie arrive on Paramount+.

‘Evil Dead Burn’ (PVOD)
The latest chapter in the “Evil Dead” franchise ramps up the blood, guts and gore to a new level. Considering the series’ pedigree as one of the most gruesome in the horror genre, that’s really saying something. “Evil Dead Burn” might be the most twisted “Evil Dead” movie to date. So, if you like your horror with a huge scoop of fake blood, this movie won’t let you down. Just take it from me, this movie is absolutely not for the squeamish.
After the death of her abusive husband, Alice (Souheila Yacoub) is in a state of conflicted grief. Traveling to the secluded home of her in-laws after the cremation service, the already tense family dynamic becomes something even darker when demonic forces are unleashed. The house becomes a survival battleground. Largely shedding the series trademark tension-cutting humor, “Evil Dead Burn” opts for a more twisted approach.

‘Billie Eilish - Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour’ (Paramount+)
“Billie Eilish - Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour” is a movie that delivers exactly what you’d expect. In the vein of Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” concert movie, this is a professionally shot recording of Billie Eilish’s globe-spanning tour to support her latest chart-topping album. If you’re a fan of Eilish’s music, then you’re practically guaranteed to enjoy this concert flick.
For this pro-shot of the sold-out tour, Eilish enlisted the help of James Cameron, yes, that James Cameron. Critics praised the filmmaking skill on display from both Cameron and Eilish, who co-directed. Naturally, fans of the American singer-songwriter were even more enthusiastic, awarding the movie a strong 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The filmed setlist included hits like “Bad Guy,” “Happier Than Ever,” and “Birds of a Feather.”

‘The Last House’ (Netflix)
Netflix’s new sci-fi thriller “The Last House” drops this week, and while I’ve been critical of the streaming service’s original movie output in 2026, I’m approaching this one with cautious optimism. That’s largely because of the two leads: Greta Lee (phenomenal in 2023’s “Past Lives”) and Wagner Moura (Oscar-nominated for his excellent work in “The Secret Agent). The quality of the material these two stars have been given remains a mystery, but I’ve got faith they’ll both deliver strong performances at the very least.
Adding further anticipation, “The Last House” boasts an intriguing setup. It sees a family of four (Lee and Moura play the mother and father) suddenly sealed inside their home by mysterious forces with no means of escape. Many movies of this ilk are set over a few days, but this one takes place over years, letting viewers watch as the family is forced to contend with dwindling resources, isolation, and no doubt a severe case of cabin fever.

‘You, Me & Tuscany’ (Peacock)
“You, Me & Tuscany” is an easy comfort watch. It’s not a romantic comedy with genre-reinvention on its agenda; instead, it offers up two very attractive leads falling in love in an equally stunning setting — in this case, you’ve guessed it, the beautiful Tuscan countryside. Starring Halle Bailey and “Bridgerton’s” Regé-Jean Page, it makes for easy-going viewing. So long as you don’t expect surprises, you might fall under its spell.
Anna (Bailey) is drifting through life in the wake of her mother’s passing. After meeting a handsome Italian, Matteo (Lorenzo de Moor), she makes the impulsive decision to visit him at his family home in Tuscany. Due to a misunderstanding, Matteo’s family comes to believe Anna is his fiancée. Playing along with the lie, Anna discovers a sense of belonging in the region’s rustic towns and lush vineyards. But the situation is complicated when she develops an attraction to Matteo’s cousin Michael (Page).

‘The Yeti’ (Shudder)
Shudder’s latest movie for horror fans is “The Yeti,” which had a limited theatrical release in April but could find a larger viewership on the streaming service dedicated to all things spooky. But a word of warning: you might want to keep your expectations in check with this monster movie, as it scored a mediocre 44% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
Set in the remote snow of northern Alaska, an oil tycoon vanishes without a trace, with a rescue team dispatched soon afterwards. What they don’t know is they’ve actually stumbled into a fiercesome yeti’s territory, and the freezing temperatures are far from the only danger they will encounter. Marketed for its use of practical effects, “The Yeti” is pitched as a throwback feature to the era when the monster movie reigned supreme.
