Everyone loves a good mystery, right? Netflix started the month with one of its most anticipated original films of the year, “Enola Holmes 3.” The mystery franchise has proven hugely popular for the platform, delivering a lively, inventive take on the world of “Sherlock Holmes.” Adapted from Nancy Springer’s young adult novels, the first two installments established Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes, who is Sherlock’s younger sister, and a quick-witted, fiercely independent teenage sleuth.

I can confidently say that “Enola Holmes 3” is the best entry in the Netflix franchise so far. It not only shakes things up by taking the story beyond London, but also leans into a more mature and emotional direction this time around. The film opens on Enola and Tewkesbury’s wedding day, before everything unravels when Dr. Watson reveals that Sherlock Holmes has gone missing. Suddenly, Enola is thrust into a new mission: finding and saving her own brother.

If you’ve already seen every “Enola Holmes” film on Netflix and need something similar to fill the void, here are the best movies you can stream right now.

It wouldn’t be right if I didn’t start off this list with “Sherlock Holmes” because, well, it’s Sherlock. Directed by Guy Ritchie, this action-mystery blockbuster famously reinvented Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic Victorian detective, and while Enola obviously isn’t involved, it has much of the same energy. Plus, one of the film’s standout technical features is the famous “Holmes Vision” slow-motion sequences, where Holmes calculates an entire fistfight in his head step by step before executing it in real time. It’s an absolute blast.

Set in 1890 London, detective Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his trusted partner Dr. John Watson (Jude Law) capture the seemingly supernatural serial killer Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong) before his execution. When Blackwood appears to return from the dead, Holmes investigates a string of mysterious deaths linked to secret societies and scientific experiments disguised as dark magic. Along the way, he crosses paths with the elusive Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams), whose hidden employer has his own agenda.

If you want something with the same charm and humor as “Enola Holmes,” then you should watch “Nancy Drew.” This is a bright, nostalgic, and lighthearted teen mystery-comedy that aims to modernize the iconic 1930s literary sleuth created by Edward Stratemeyer. In a way, it feels like “Clueless” meets “Veronica Mars,” but with the wholesome, sunny energy of a Disney Channel Original Movie. It’s a breezy, comforting watch filled with 2000s pop music, great retro outfits, and an incredibly charming lead performance.

When teenage detective Nancy Drew (Emma Roberts) travels to Los Angeles with her lawyer father, Carson Drew (Tate Donovan), for his temporary work assignment, she secretly arranges for them to stay in the former home of murdered Hollywood star Dehlia Draycott (Laura Harring), whose death was never solved. While adjusting to a new school, Nancy uncovers hidden letters, secret passageways and evidence that Draycott had a daughter placed for adoption. As she follows the trail to a missing will, Nancy becomes the target of dangerous criminals determined to keep the truth buried.

“Knives Out” is one of the best mystery movies ever made, so I had to include it. Not to mention it’s similar in tone to “Enola Holmes 3.” It stands as a brilliant revitalization of classic Agatha Christie-style murder mysteries, subverting traditional genre tropes while keeping viewers laughing and guessing right until the end. What I like most about this incredibly cozy, intricately plotted puzzle box is that it’s just as interested in mocking the petty greed of a privileged family as it is in solving a crime.

On the morning after his 85th birthday celebration, renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead inside his mansion, and the case appears to be a suicide. However, an anonymous client hires celebrated detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) to investigate. As Blanc interviews Harlan’s relatives and household staff, he uncovers bitter family disputes and conflicting accounts of the previous night. Harlan’s nurse, Marta Cabrera (Ana de Armas), becomes deeply entangled in the investigation.

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with a lighthearted mystery-comedy, and “See How They Run” is perfect for those who need something simple and unserious. The film works simultaneously as a classic period-piece whodunit and a satirical parody of the entire mystery genre. Taking place entirely within London's glamorous 1950s West End theater district, this mystery flick constantly breaks the fourth wall, making fun of classic genre clichés right as those exact tropes happen on screen.

Set in London's West End in 1953, “See How They Run” begins as Agatha Christie’s hit play The Mousetrap celebrates its 100th performance. Plans for a film adaptation are thrown into chaos when arrogant Hollywood director Leo Köpernick (Adrien Brody) is murdered backstage. World-weary Inspector Stoppard (Sam Rockwell) and enthusiastic rookie Constable Stalker (Saoirse Ronan) are assigned to investigate, uncovering suspicious behavior among the play’s cast, producers, writers, and crew.

‘The Sheep Detectives’ (2026)

Yes, I know “Enola Holmes” doesn’t involve talking animals solving a crime, but I think “The Sheep Detectives” has very similar charm and character. Based on Leonie Swann’s international bestselling 2005 novel Three Bags Full, this Amazon production features a large ensemble voice cast, with sheep trying to solve their shepherd’s murder. It’s a smart, fiercely original, and deeply heartwarming family movie that respects both the intelligence of its audience and the quirky mechanics of a classic murder mystery.

George Hardy (Hugh Jackman) is a kind-hearted shepherd who spends his evenings reading detective novels aloud to his flock, assuming they can’t understand him. When George is suddenly found dead under suspicious circumstances in the English countryside village of Denbrook, the sheep quickly realize it was murder. Led by the intelligent sheep Lily (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), the flock begins secretly investigating the humans around them, including local policeman Tim Derry (Nicholas Braun) and George’s daughter Rebecca (Molly Gordon).
