When you're in the mood to kick back on the couch with a new movie, Netflix is often the go-to choice. Like all the best streaming services, it keeps things fresh with a steady stream of new releases, and this weekend is no exception.
If you’d rather skip the endless scrolling and jump straight into something good, I’ve done the hard work for you. I’ve gone through everything new on Netflix this week and picked out three standout options worth adding to your watchlist over the next few days.
That includes Netflix’s new shark thriller with a “Bridgerton” star, a slasher flick that sees a new Ghostface return for another rampage, and the sequel to Emily Blunt’s intense horror movie. Here are the three new to Netflix movies you stream this weekend.
Article continues below‘Thrash’ (2026)
The biggest movie on Netflix this week is the original shark thriller “Thrash.” It’s about time it finally landed too, not only because it was first announced two years ago, but also because it’s gone through more than three title changes since originally being called “The Rising” when Sony Pictures held the rights. Now that it’s streaming on Netflix, I’m hoping it delivers the same kind of thrills that the 2019 movie “Crawl” did, with a deadly apex predator turning an already chaotic hurricane into something worse.
“Thrash” follows a coastal town thrown into chaos when a powerful Category 5 hurricane makes landfall. As floodwaters rapidly rise and streets become submerged, residents find themselves trapped with no clear escape. Among them is a heavily pregnant woman named Lisa (Phoebe Dynevor) stranded in her car, along with other survivors scattered across the town, each facing worsening conditions. With the storm growing more violent, a new danger appears in the floodwaters: sharks.

‘Scream’ (2022)
The fifth entry in the iconic franchise, titled simply “Scream,” acted as a “requel,” effectively rebooting the story for a new generation. Introducing a mostly fresh cast with only loose ties to the original Woodsboro survivors was a bold move, but it paid off thanks to a sharp script and strong performances from the entire cast. By respecting the franchise’s established rules while building its own identity, the film proved there was still life left in Ghostface.

“Scream” is set 25 years after the original Woodsboro murders, when a new Ghostface killer begins targeting a group of teenagers connected to the town’s past. After Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) is attacked and left hospitalized, her estranged sister Sam (Melissa Barrera) returns to town with her boyfriend Richie (Jack Quaid), reconnecting with Tara and her friend group. As more attacks occur, the group seeks help from former survivors Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), and Dewey Riley (David Arquette).

‘A Quiet Place 2’ (2020)
The original “A Quiet Place” delivered a gripping sci-fi horror experience, and the sequel follows suit. “A Quiet Place Part II” expands the story in meaningful ways while still benefiting from strong performances, including Emily Blunt. It successfully builds on what came before, adding new elements while keeping the same intensity and emotional core. With a fourth installment in the franchise arriving in July 2027, there’s still more to come.
“A Quiet Place Part II” continues immediately after the events of the first film, following Evelyn Abbott (Blunt) and her children as they leave their destroyed home in search of safety. After a sudden emergency forces them onto the road, they encounter Emmett (Cillian Murphy), a former family friend, who reluctantly agrees to help them. Meanwhile, Regan (Millicent Simmonds) sets out separately after discovering a possible signal that could lead to other survivors.

Before joining Tom’s Guide, Alix honed her skills as a staff writer with outlets like Screen Rant and Bough Digital, where she discovered her love for the entertainment industry.
She heads to the cinema every week as a tradition, no matter what’s showing. For her, movies aren’t just entertainment — they’re a ritual, a comfort, and a constant source of inspiration. When she’s not at her desk or at the cinema, you’ll probably find her deep into a horror video game on her PC.
