There's a whole bunch of reasons to pick up the Sony WH-1000XM6. They sound great, feature some of the best ANC that money can buy, and pack in loads of features that rank them amongst the best headphones.

Now there's one more reason to grab yourself a pair — a $60 discount. The WH-1000XM6 are now just $398 at Amazon, making them their lowest price of the year.

The Sony WH-1000XM6 bring a whole host of great features to the table, making them a solid option if you want some top-notch ANC headphones. They sound good, they're comfortable, and they offer 30 hours of battery life. The protective case keeps them safe from damage in your backpack.

Sony's latest pair of headphones are more expensive than the old model, the XM5, but there's enough new stuff on offer to justify the price. But enough of that — let me tell you why I started using them more than the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones gen 2, which would otherwise be my favorite noise-cancelling headphones.

As much as the ANC of the Bose headphones is scarily impressive, the sound leaves a lot to be desired. The three-band EQ can only go so far in making them more usable, with more sound customization restrictions than I'd usually like.

Strangely, the 10-band EQ found in Sony's headphones has made the most important difference. The sound is still not to my taste out of the box. There's too much over-dominating low-end to the sound. So I dip into the extensive EQ settings and dial in the sound to my preferred profile. Much better.

Toss in the excellent ANC and decent battery life, and the XM6 earn a permanent place in my backpack alongside similar cans from Bowers & Wilkins. They do the lion's share of my ANC work now — something I wasn't expecting during my testing.

This discount brings them back down to their lowest price, something we've only just seen this year. This price hasn't stuck around long in the past — so it's well worth dipping in quickly to avoid disapoinment.
