Anonymous Going After Child Porn Sites

Anonymous has submerged itself into the darknet and is going after the pedophiles and the hosts of child porn lurking in the depths of the Internet.

Hactivist group Anonymous has reportedly set aside its political campaign for the moment and taken a moral approach in its latest attack. Instead of hacking banks, corporations and government facilities, the group has gone after websites serving up child porn.

The group is currently taking credit for knocking around 40 websites offline and posting the names and data of more than 1,500 alleged pedophiles using those sites. Now the group is threatening to go after the actual hosts, claiming that they are supporting child abuse.

"Our demands are simple," Anonymous said just over a week ago via Pastebin. "Remove all child pornography content from your servers. Refuse to provide hosting services to any website dealing with child pornography. This statement is not just aimed at Freedom Hosting, but everyone on the Internet. It does not matter who you are, if we find you to be hosting, promoting, or supporting child pornography, you will become a target."

Anonymous said its campaign began while browsing a darknet site called Hidden Wiki, an index containing hundreds of underground websites that can’t be seen by search engines or viewed by regular internet users. Anonymous found a section called "Hard Candy" which was dedicated to links to child pornography. The group forced-removed the links from Hidden Wiki, but within five minutes they were replaced by the site's administrator. Because of this, Anonymous said it will continue to make Hard Candy unavailable.

"At approximately 8:45 CST we noticed 95-percent of the child pornography listed on the Hidden Wiki shared a digital fingerprint with the shared hosting server at Freedom Hosting," the group states. "At approximately 9:00pm CST on October 14, 2011, we identified Freedom Hosting as the host of the largest collection of child pornography on the internet. We then issued a warning to remove the illegal content from their server, which they refused to do."

Taking matters into its own hands, Anonymous infiltrated Freedom Hosting's shared hosting server and shut down services to all clients. Freedom Hosting installed its backups and restored services. Anonymous offered a few warnings again and then repeated its take-down when they went unheeded. Now Freedom Hosting is considered as "#OpDarknet Enemy Number One."

"The owners and operators at Freedom Hosting are openly supporting child pornography and enabling pedophiles to view innocent children, fueling their issues and putting children at risk of abduction, molestation, rape, and death," Anonymous said. "By taking down Freedom Hosting, we are eliminating 40+ child pornography websites, among these is Lolita City, one of the largest child pornography websites to date containing more than 100 GB of child pornography."

"We will continue to not only crash Freedom Hosting's server, but any other server we find to contain, promote, or support child pornography," the group added.

1,589 names were extracted from Lolita City and published on Pastebin.

I applaud the focus anonymous has directed towards stifling child porn content on the web, but this feels a little like taking out a less capable foe after getting gutted by a greater one.

Nice to see them do something like this.

Also paedophile. Afaik Paedo is something like child (can't remember the language. Like Paediatrician). Ped is something like soil iirc.

I honestly don't know what to think. Here're some points to think about:

    1) CP is bad (m'kay?) No, I'm serious this time. It's good to see Anonymous is going after that.

    2) From the other side, it seems like a cheap publicity stunt from their side to gain popularity.

    3) Also, I can't help but notice that, although despotism of a superior entity with right moral beliefs is the only efficient means of a just government, I cannot trust Anonymous' beliefs to be right.

    4) Hell, I don't even see why should anyone agree to them doing it... CP is bad, but they're given way too much freedom to mess around on the net.

Both spellings are correct, Blubbey. Paedophile is the British spelling. Pedophile is the American and Canadian spelling.

And yes it might be a way to gain support. Well i surely will give them more support over this than a politician giving me more of the same crap from everyday, or the news showing how cruel the world is.

Grow up people, you want somthing good to happen? move your ass and start doing it.

Though when i read this news article on the BBC app, it also quoted "the authorities" (anti cyber crime ppl) saying that Anonymous may have screwed up ongoing investigations, traces and leads.
So while i agree it's good, there just maybe another side to the same coin (there always is lol).

    Finally, hacking for good use!
This will be a lot more effective than only listening to boring politicians talking about fighting child pornography.
You have my support on this one.

About time they did something worthwhile. They've got my support.

Whilst they're at it, can they target our friends the Chinese spammers, too?

Yes but isn't pedophile pronounced differently? I don't recall anyone pronouncing encyclopedia different to encyclopaedia (i.e. the -pe is pronounced the same as -pae and not -ped) so this may be a unique example.

The idea is that everything they have done was for the greater good / a moral approach.

wrong colours? or was it "colors"
I went on a link claiming that there was an active Russian pedofile (note the spelling) site
and...YAAARRRGGHHH... no joke!Ï reported to the Police and used Shredded for the web cache
but I'm still afraid of Win7 restore system hiding some data somewhere
Never ever go after a rumour...it might be true and to an extend you don't want to see
Mostly girls of age 5-15, and at least one small boy
and that was the point I was waking from my ½coma
and I gave the link to the police and started the cleanup
I don't have any adult entertainment in my PC (or DVD's)
    but I'm hard-boiled and I don't react easily
    - yet still this happened ½year ago
and this is the first time I write about it publicly

    Go Anonymous go!
    Target the Russian websites also
anyone of you can find them by simple search - I guess
I found a direct link though - it was in a discussion
claiming that this is happening in Russia easily and publicly
I said (in my mind) bull...and I still am not fully recovered...
Please don't try to find out these pages
What if the police at that moment raids your PC?
How do you make judge to believe "I was just curious!"
    Yack!

For some reason, I cannot amend my post (apologies for the second post). I was going to say that pedophile should be pronounced the same as paedophile, however it does seem to have two different pronunciations in the US. To me, it's peed- and not ped-.

Pedophile should be pronounced "lethal injection".... imho

I think this is a publicity stunt, anonymous wants/needs more public support so why not go after a group that everyone hates? I say good on them anyways, stunt or not I can appreciate it...
