Nuclear Bunker on eBay Approaches $40,000
Nuclear warfare worries keeping you up at night? Put your mind at ease with this nuclear bunker, currently going for nearly $40,000 on eBay.
One eBay user in England is attracting a lot of attention with one posting that advertises a two-room Royal Observer Corps nuclear bunker. Offering shoppers the 'rare opportunity to acquire a piece of Cold War History,' the seller says it was constructed in 1959 and fully operational until 1991.
"Following the collapse of the former Soviet Union and its perceived nuclear threat, the bunkers were decommissioned. Because of their remote location, most of them have been the target for vandalism. However, there were a select few that remained intact and in a state of good preservation. These are usually to be found on private land.
This bunker was used as a Master Post and is denoted by the additional equipment that the other posts do not possess. The bunker opened in September 1959 and was usually staffed by 3 personnel working in shifts and was fully operational until 1991."
The site measures 50ft x 50ft with an additional piece of 16ft x 16ft land attached. Access to the bunker is via a metal hatch and shaft with a 15ft ladder. The bunker boasts two rooms; one for a chemical toilet and one monitoring room.
The winning bidder will also get the desk, chair, siren box, enamel bucket, BPI mounting board, copper earthing straps along the top two walls (unique to master posts), jerry cans, rope for hauling heavy items up the shaft, sump grill and sump pump seen in the photos. The seller adds that the phone and teletalk can be acquired "by separate negotiation."

Would this also keep one safe from an invasion of zombies?
as long as the zombies are brainless.
With the way the world is going it's not a bad buy.If I had the money I would build one.
as long as the zombies are brainless.
Sounds alot like the middle school students I teach to on a daily basis, so you should be fine for the zombie apocalypse!
But can you play Crysis down there ?
Crysis 'warhead' that is ^^
as long as the zombies are brainless.
We are getting there... As long as the Party of NO keeps voting NO.
Do you have to press a button every 108 minutes?
4 + 8 + 15 + 16 + 23 + 42
But can you play Crysis down there ?Crysis 'warhead' that is ^^
I think the words "can","play",and "crysis" need to be censored on this website. Such an old joke. Sooo played.
I am confused...
They ship you this? or do you own the land it is under?

wow...hook, line, and sinker eh?
you must be one of those "yes we can" people. the same people that say, hey we CAN do this, but never think about whether they SHOULD.
i'm guessing all you wanted to do was make a comment that would bait some political debate/argument. well i'm sure that will now happen, but i am gonna stay out of any arguments that may or may not happen. internet arguments eat up WAY too much time.
my apologies for making a political comment. who the hell brings politics into a discussion about an ebay auction, right?
Make sure your bunker doesn't have Zartan hiding in it!!

A polital post about an article on THG about an Ebay auction for a nuclear bunker. Know that joke about winning the special olympics? Well you won it sir with flying colors.

Wait, what?
Would my cell phone work in there?
Dman3k is obviously just a sheep. We should be blaming the people that actually make his decisions for him for the off base post.
But if any of you actually do win the auction, no worries! Home-Design.com has plenty of fashionable ideas to convert your newly aquired cold war relic into comfortable living space.

its a perfect place to be during zombies or nukes, but id probably just turn it into an arsenal of weapons, oreos, and multiple pc's. that way we could eat, have LAN parties, and when we get tired of shooting zombies in l4d2 we can shoot some real ones, or who ever is invading
wow, that's a lot cheaper than the same sized house in Australia! sounds like a bargain! and what? it protects you from nukes too?

Can I hide out in your nuclear bunker when the zombies attack? sounds like a fun party
the only thing missing on that table is a pistol and few bullets depending on how many people can get in...
SERIOUSLY, would even want to spend decades inside that cell?
Hey man, if it's sitting in that little cell or slowly roasting from the inside out due to radiation poisoning, I'll take the cell.
But will it protect me from Terminators?
I wonder how the chemical toilet works... like, how large of a supply of chemicals are in there for it, and it is actually flushed out as sewage? it also does not look large enough to house enough food to survive until radiation levels are low. I see no purpose for this except to survive a short time after intial blasts, but I don't think you could be self-sufficient for the long term.
Will i be my own Overseer?
Be a cool way to get away from the wife. Err, I mean zombie version of her.
Zombie and nukes you're good bermm.. But terminators.. I think not. Skynet would easily find all the bunkers and clear them out. You'd be better off in the country in a cave.
needs an upgrade, but its still good!
