My favorite running shoe of 2025 just got an upgrade for winter — meet the Adidas Adizero Evo SL ATR

I’ve tested more than 60 pairs of running shoes and run around 2800 miles this year, and the sneaker that has stood out the most for me in 2025 is the Adidas Adizero Evo SL.

It’s light, comfortable, bouncy and great for any kind of run, from easy plods to fast track sessions and even races. It’s also good value at $150, given that similarly impressive all-rounders can cost you over $200 these days (I’m looking at you, Asics Megablast).

So the news that Adidas is launching a winter-ready version of the Evo SL was music to my ears. As someone who runs almost every day through the wet British winter, I can’t wait to get my hands on the Adidas Adizero Evo SL ATR.

Built for wet and slippery conditions

The main changes to the ATR version of the Evo SL compared with the standard sneaker are found in the upper and outsole.

Up top, you now have a ripstop woven mesh upper that offers water repellency and has reflective details to make you more visible on your runs in dark conditions. The fit has also been improved, with increased security around the heel.

On the bottom of the shoe, you now have a lugged outsole for better grip on wet sidewalks and light trails. The 1.5mm lugs aren’t designed to grip on serious off-road terrain, but provide more security on road runs when it’s wet or slightly icy.

The same springy midsole foam

The midsole sticks to the same setup as the standard Adidas Evo SL, and that’s a good thing, because the bouncy Lightstrike Pro foam used is key to the versatile, fun ride of the shoe.

You get a lot of energy return at faster paces, but the Evo SL is also comfortable for cruising along, making it my favorite all-around daily trainer.

One potential drawback for those who need extra stability on the run is the cutout on the medial side, which can make it easier to roll inwards.

If you’re a neutral runner, this isn’t a problem in my experience, but if you overpronate and use shoes with more support, the Evo SL ATR might not work well for you at easy paces.

When is the Adidas Adizero Evo SL ATR available?

The Adidas Adizero Evo SL ATR will go on sale on 4 December 2025 and costs $160 in the U.S. and £140 in the U.K., which is $10/£10 more expensive than the standard model of the shoe.

It’s available in three colors, with the all-black option likely the best pick for most people worried about their shoes getting dirty during winter runs.
