Forget the iPhone 17 — Samsung tipped to reveal a trifold phone and AI glasses later this month

Apple may be launching the iPhone 17 next week, but Samsung doesn't seem to care as it has an Unpacked event coming on September 4. And that might not be the only Unpacked showcase happening in September.

A pair of leaks suggests that Samsung could have an Unpacked event at the end of September — or possibly in early October — that will take place in South Korea. The event will allegedly feature the debut of the rumored Galaxy Z TriFold phone and possibly a pair of Galaxy Glasses, alongside the much-teased Project Moohan headset.

All three devices have been rumored previously, or in the case of Moohan, actually shown off at various events throughout the year.

According to regular Samsung leaker Ice Universe, Samsung is going to hold an Unpacked event in South Korea on September 29. They claim that Samsung will release the Galaxy Z Trifold during the event. Additionally, Samsung is expected to share more information on the Android XR Project Moohan headset and "AI glasses (Galaxy Glasses)."

Trifold expectations

At the same time, a new report from the Korean publication ET News suggests a debut date "as early as next month" before the trifold hits shelves in November. Even if its not September 29, exactly, that still points to a fairly soon release.

According to ET News, Samsung is setting low expectations for the trifold. The company is allegedly only prepping 50,000 units for sale to gauge customer interest.

It's a somewhat similar strategy the company took with its Z Fold series, which also only shipped around 50,000 when the first iteration arrived. The company's foldables finally seem to have gained traction with the excellent Galaxy Z Fold 7 though.

What about a US release?

With the lower production amount, it's not clear if the trifold will make its way to the United States. It has been rumored that the new device will only be available in China and South Korea. Neither Ice Universe nor ET News has provided any insight on where the trifold will be available.

However, the device is being announced in Korea, so it wouldn't be too surprising. Samsung did something similar with the Galaxy Z Fold SE last year, which only launched in its home country.

As for Project Moohan, Samsung has shown the XR headset at several events this year including the Galaxy S25 Unpacked in January, Google I/O in May and AWE 2025 in June. That device will likely come to the United States, and it should launch before the end of the year.

The AI smart glasses haven't seen many leaks in comparison, but a recent rumor claimed that the "Haean" glasses would launch alongside the Moohan headset.
