iPhone Fold specs just tipped — display sizes, cameras, Touch ID and more
Everything you need to know
Apple's first foldable, the iPhone Fold, is reportedly on the horizon, but it faces some stiff competition from some of the best foldables. However, a new report might have given us our best idea of how this phone could face up top the competition.
Analyst Jeff Pu revealed the apparent specs for the iPhone Fold in a new investor note (via 9to5Mac,) based on GF Securities data. The leaked specs include the size of the screen, the cameras, and more.
| Row 0 - Cell 0 | iPhone Fold (rumored) |
Launch | September 2026 |
Display | 7.8 inches / 5.3 inches |
Processor | A20 |
RAM | 12GB |
Front Camera | 18MP Folded, 18MP (unfolded) |
Rear Camera | 48MP, 48MP |
Face ID | None (Touch ID) |
Casing | Titanium + Aluminium |
Modem | Apple C2 |
The details claim that the iPhone Fold will be built using a combination of aluminium and titanium, with a release date of September 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series. The phone is also stated to feature the same A20 chip expected for the iPhone 18 series, and the Apple C2 modem, an improved version of Apple’s C1X and C1 in-house designed modems found in the iPhone Air and iPhone 16e, respectively.
Regarding the display, the leaked specs align with most of what we have seen in previous rumors. For instance, the 7.8-inch main display has been circulating for a while now, but the 5.3-inch front display is smaller than what other leaks have said, which hints at a size of around 5.5 inches.
One important addition that comes from these specs is the apparent reveal of the cameras coming with the iPhone Fold. According to Pu, the phone will feature two 48MP rear cameras and an 18MP front camera. It’s also seemingly confirmed that the phone won’t feature Face ID and will instead use Touch ID.
How does it compare to Samsung’s upcoming foldable phone?
Apple’s first foldable phone is certainly in for a challenge, namely because companies like Samsung and Google have had a couple of generations to work out many of the kinks. With that being said, industry analysts indicate that Apple’s involvement could be a real shakeup for the foldable market.
Easily one of the biggest competitors will be Samsung and the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8. And there are some interesting comparisons when we look at everything we’ve heard about the two devices.
Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips.
The biggest noticeable difference is the reported screen sizes for the two devices, with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 expected to match the 8-inch display seen on the Galaxy Z Fold 7. While the main screens might not be that different, I am a bit worried about how thin the front screen on the iPhone could be, especially as it might be harder to use than a normal phone while folded.
In terms of cameras, we’re expecting the Galaxy Z Fold 8 to keep the same 200MP main camera as the Z Fold 7. However, there are indications from Galaxy Club that Samsung could improve the 12MP ultrawide lens to 50MP, and upgrade the telephoto lens to 12P while still offering a 3x zoom. If accurate, then you’re getting a much stronger camera package than the iPhone Fold, at least on paper, but we’ll hold off on judgments until we’re able to compare the two in person.
The big decider in all of this will likely be price, especially as the iPhone Fold has been rumored to have a price range reaching as much as $2,400. With that being said, Apple experts have indicated that it may not be as hard a sale as some might think due to the popularity of Apple devices. We have yet to see any substantial price rumors for the Z Fold 8, but with the rising cost of RAM, it is likely to be more expensive than the $1,999 Z Fold 7.
Which foldable phone will be ideal for you is, at this point, impossible to say for certain. Until then, we’ll keep you updated on any new leaks and rumors we hear for both phones.
