As a combination sleeper who rolls over to my side every night, a plush sink-in pillow is my weakness. However, being a bedding tester, I am aware that it is next to impossible to find the ‘one perfect pillow’ for my sleep.
This is also why we’re constantly involved in rigorous testing of the best pillows in the market, to find an ideal headrest for all sleepers and bring you our top recommendations to rest better.
Recently, I reviewed the Purple GridCloud pillow, a new launch from a brand behind some of the best mattresses on the market. The GridCloud delivers some great sleep benefits, but does it really rival our top pillow for 2025, the Coop Original Adjustable? I decided to compare the two across different parameters to find the answer and here’s what I found…
Coop Original Adjustable vs Purple GridCloud Pillow: Price & deals
- Significant price difference between the two
- Purple GridCloud is a premium-priced pillow at $149
- Coop Original offers better benefits including a five-year warranty
The Coop Original Adjustable pillow is priced at $85 for a queen and $99 for a king. You'll also get some industry-best bedding benefits when you buy, including a 100-night sleep trial, five-year warranty and free shipping.
Additionally, you can typically find savings of up to 20% during major sale events like Presidents' Day, Labor Day and Black Friday. This reduces the price of a queen pillow from $85 to $68. The offer is also applicable on third party retailer websites such as Amazon.
Meanwhile the Purple GridCloud is a premium-priced pillow that comes in at $149, with a 30-night trial, one-year warranty and free shipping included.
As well as packing a heftier price tag, the GridCloud also has a lack of size options: it's currently only available in a single standard size.
Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips.
Since the GridCloud is a recent launch, so far we have only spotted a 10% off bundle offer (which drops the price of two pillows from $298 to $268) and not the usual 20% off pillows we tend to see in Purple mattress sales. While we're expecting larger savings in upcoming events, we're not sure if that's something the brand has in store.
As a result, the Coop Original Adjustable stands out to be the clear winner in terms of price and deals.
Coop Original Adjustable vs Purple GridCloud Pillow: Design
- Coop Original has a memory foam and fiber blend
- The GridCloud has Purple's signature GelFlex Grid
- Coop is a fully-adjustable pillow for all sleepers
Crafted from shredded memory foam and cushioning microfiber, the Coop Original offers a plush contouring feel suitable for all sleepers.
The biggest highlight, however, is how you can change the firmness and feel of the pillow by simply adding or removing fill; there's a half pound bag of additional fill included in the package.
The soft Lulltra (a blend of polyester and bamboo-derived viscose rayon) top cover is breathable contributing to the pillow's comfy neutral temperature. However, it doesn't include any other cooling credentials, which indicates that very hot sleepers might need an actively cooling pillow.
The Purple GridCloud has essentially two layers: an inner core made of silky down-alternative fibers topped by the pressure-relieving GelFlex honeycomb structure, which provides responsive support and breathability.
The silicone coating on the fibers pieces prevents the fill from flattening overnight, which means you rarely have to fluff it up to maintain the shape and support. The entire pillow comes enclosed in a soft, stretchy hypoallergic and moisture-wicking cover — which could be good news for those who struggle with overheating and night sweats.
On the basis of its design specs, the Purple GridCloud is more user-friendly as it provides solutions to common pillow issues like flattening, overheating and lack of responsiveness.
Coop Original Adjustable vs Purple GridCloud Pillow: Comfort & support
- Coop Original flattens easily
- Purple GridCloud largely maintains its shape and support
- Both offer a sink-in contouring feel especially for side sleepers
Drawing from my testing experience, I would say both the Coop Original Adjustable and Purple GridCloud provide hotel-like luxury sleep, thanks to their plush down-like feel and comfort. However, the GridCloud has a slight advantage and we'll explore this further.
As someone who loves a softer feel to my headrest, I found the Coop Original Adjustable pillow to largely deliver this. However, this involved multiple trial runs to get the fill just right, which meant that I ended up using a quarter of the extra bag provided. During the testing period, I never woke up with neck pains or aches and felt supported even when I shifted positions from side to back sleeping during the night.
In contrast, the Purple GridCloud comes as a ready-to-sleep pillow, with a set pillow loft, firmness and size which are not marketed to be adjustable by the brand (even though you have access to the fill). This easily felt like one of our best pillows for side sleepers, as it perfectly filled the gap between my ear and shoulder, ideal for maintaining the spinal alignment in this position.
However, it is the GelFlex Grid layer which gives the pillow an edge over the Coop Original. Compared with the Coop, the GridCloud provides a squidgy feel, subtle soothing pressure relief and responsive support that works well with the cushioning down-alternative fibers. In simple terms, you'll feel like you're sleeping on plump clouds. Plus it doesn't flatten as much as the Coop, thanks to the silicone-coated fibers.
The breathability of the grid layer, combined with the moisture-wicking hypoallergenic cover, also seems to be a better package for hot sleepers than the Coop, especially since memory foam is a material that's notorious for causing overheating.
Coop Original Adjustable vs Purple GridCloud Pillow: Which should you buy?
Buy the Coop Original Adjustable pillow if...
✅ You're not sure of your sleep position: You can customize the feel, firmness and pillow loft by simply adding or removing the fill, to suit any sleeping position.
✅ You need a mid-priced pillow: At $85 for a queen size, the Coop is a much affordable option than the GridCloud.
✅ You're a stomach sleeper: Some stomach sleepers might find the GridCloud pillow to be too high, which can cause muscle strain and even sleep disruption if used over a long time.
Buy the Purple GridCloud Pillow if...
✅ You're a side sleeper: Our tested found the pillow loft, firmness and feel to be perfect for side sleeping.
✅ You do not like refluffing often: The silicone fibers and the GelFlex layer help the GridCloud pillow maintain its shape and support for longer, so you won't have to worry it'll flatten overnight.
✅ You need a cloud-like pillow: The GridCloud is frankly a step above the Coop Original, with the GelFlex grid providing responsive support and instant pressure relief that side sleepers will enjoy.
