The new Roborock Saros 20 Sonic’s extendable mop is a game-changer — here's why I can't wait to try it
This could change my mind about robot mops
If you have mainly hard floors to contend with, the best robot vacuums and robot mops can make light work of removing stubborn stains. However, if there’s one common gripe I have, it's the inability to thoroughly clean those hard-to-reach places properly for a deeper clean.
That’s why I was so intrigued by Roborock’s latest robot vacuum and mop hybrid — which could be the answer to my biggest woes. Unveiled at CES 2026, the Roborock Saros Sonic 20 is part of an impressive lineup of robot vacuums and features a mopping system unlike any other. This is mainly thanks to its extendable mopping D-shaped pad that kicks out when tackling edge-to-edge cleaning.
In fact, this is the first I’ve heard of extendable pads, since most D-shaped pads are usually fixed in place. The Saros Sonic 20 is also packed with other impressive features that may well change my mind about the future of automated mopping systems — here’s why.
Unique mopping design
The key feature for me is that the Saros Sonic 20 has a unique mopping system altogether. Typically, the robot mops I’ve tested usually come with two attachable spinning discs or one roller to get the job done.
However, the Saros Sonic 20 just has a D-shaped mopping pad that extends almost entirely from edge-to-edge. This is great for pressing into edges or baseboards, angles, and covering awkward areas, so you’ll never miss a spot.
While it sounds a little too good to be true, I’d be interested to put this to the test in my kitchen, which is full of awkward angles, especially underneath my curved cabinets.
More powerful and quieter
We all want a little peace when our robot vacuums are on in the background, and the Saros Sonic 20 promises a quieter clean without sacrificing power. Thanks to its ‘VibraRise’ system, the pad has its own independent motor delivering 4000 sonic vibrations per minute and applies 1.75x more pressure (compared to previous Roborock models) to break down dirt, grease, and other stubborn stains easily.

This addresses another gripe that I’ve always had with robot mops whenever it came to removing unsightly marks on my hard floors.
Upgraded 'RockDock' base system
Another notable feature of the Roborock Saros Sonic 20 its upgraded base system that essentially takes care of all the mucky maintenance for you. Not only does it clean the pad with 212°F hot water to remove grime, but it uses 131°F hot air to dry the mop so that it won’t smell, and is ready for your next session.
This is a more hygienic way to remove traces of dirt and bacteria, and it helps eliminate smelly odors and risk of mold.
When can I buy the Roborock Saros Sonic 20?
