I thought it was weird spying on my cats with this new robotic litter box — but it does more than just record them
It also uses AI to detect multiple cats, along with stool monitoring
My cats and I have been spoiled for years now testing many of the best robotic litter boxes around, which saves me time from scooping up after them. For the last month, though, they’ve been trying out Petkit’s Purobot Max Pro 2 — a smart cat litter box that comes with a built-in 1080p camera on the inside.
I have security cameras just about everywhere in my home, but I didn’t think there’d be a need for one in a litter box. But just like the Petlibro Smart Granary Feeder, this integrated camera does way more than just letting me spy on my cats as they do their business.
The Petkit Purobot Max Pro 2 has a 1080p AI-powered camera with facial recognition to discern multiple cats using the litter box, along with a host of other tracking features such as stool and urine monitoring to provide you with insightful information about your cats' habits.
Similar to all the other robotic litter boxes my cats have tested, the Petkit Purobot Max Pro 2 automatically cycles itself each time a few minutes after my cats finish up. It’s designed differently from the Littler Robot 4 and Neakasa M1, appearing somewhat cube shaped overall — with a large opening in the front.

While I do like how the opening makes it easy for my cats to get in and out, the space inside is rather tight. This isn’t a problem if your cats are tiny or petite, but my two boys are 15-pound beasts that feel a little constricted inside of them. You can see in the first video above how one of them smacks their head against the sifting tray as he was getting in. I also wish there was a lip or pedestal of some kind on the front, which would make it easier for older cats to step in and out — as opposed to them jumping out each time.
The coolest feature of the Petkit Purobot Max Pro 2 is the 1080p camera built into the inside of the littler box. I like that it’s angled in such a way so that it can see the outside of the opening, detecting any motion and saving the event. Through the app, of course, I can actively watch my cats as they use the robotic litter box — or later on since they’re stored in the cloud.
Another nice thing about the camera is that it has night vision. The quality is actually pretty good, but the camera isn’t just there for me to snoop on them — it also has facial recognition to recognize my two black cats. This is important because the Purobot Max Pro 2 also tracks their weight each time, which is super important to see any major changes that could indicate health issues.
You also get helpful features like stool monitoring to detect potential abnormalities, yowling detection that could indicate discomfort, and if you opt to use Petkit’s tofu mixed cat litter, urine pH monitoring that will analyze clumps to track urine pH. These features are all included with Petkit’s free plan, but you do get seven days of video highlight storage with the $21.99 annual Petkit Care+ Basic plan (or $3.99 per month).

The whole scooping process takes about two minutes to complete, which funnels all of the waste into its 8L waste bin. This is tiny compared to other robotic litter boxes I’ve tested, which means replacing the liner more frequently. But despite this, I have to say that it offers the best odor control in any litter box I’ve tested because of how its tightly sealed waste bin also has a deodorizer that negates all funky odors.
Honestly, there’s a lot I love about the Purobot Max Pro 2 — including the camera to help me keep track of my cats’ habits. One of them is diabetic, so knowing how frequently they pee is important to me. Furthermore, I really like how the free basic plan still gives you some cloud storage. I just wish the interior were a smidge bigger, so my cats can better maneuver around and not feel as squished.
