My hairdryer just got an AI upgrade, but I don’t want it

Call me crazy, but I don’t think I need the help of AI to dry my hair. I mean, I’ve used a hair dryer every single time I’ve washed my hair my whole life, so I’d like to think I have sufficient knowledge in the area. But when my daily hair dryer got an AI upgrade, I had to admit, I was a little curious as to what it could be.

I use the Dreame Hair Miracle to dry my hair most days. It leaves my hair feeling incredibly soft, and has the perfect amount of adjustment settings from heat to power to make me feel like I’m in complete control of the styling process. It comes with five attachments, including a Hair Care Essence Nozzle to ensure my hair and scalp are always as healthy as possible, and also a diffuser for the days I want to embrace my natural curly locks (which doesn’t come with all hair dryers as standard).

Dreame has given my beloved hair dryer a glow-up with the Hair Miracle Pro, which we will be reviewing very soon… but I’m not sure it’s for me.

The Dreame Miracle Pro is the upgraded version of the Dreame Hair Miracle, and it comes with a techy twist. The Pro version of the hairdryer utilizes AI to make real-time decisions about your hair drying. This technology can help to protect your hair from unnecessary heat damage by taking out the guesswork of heat settings and adjusting the temperature for you.

How does the AI work?

Sure, it can be nice sometimes to have the reassurance that you’re doing it right, but is it just overcomplicating a simple task?

The Dreame Hair Miracle Pro is riddled with sensors to help the dryer detect exactly what your hair needs. The dryer sends out signals that measure the heat and help the dryer decide whether the hair needs more or less heat based on how close it is to your head.

It sounds pretty cool on the label, but I’m not sure you need it. With my regular dryer, I’m able to figure out how close to hold it to my head and if it’s too hot all on my own. The dryer also makes adjustments based on the attachment being used on the dryer. It simply makes life a little easier.

Why I won’t be switching

I have very stubborn curly hair. I have been wearing it straight every single day since I was about 10 years old, and in that time I have learnt one thing: Heat works. Now I’m not saying that I fry my hair every single time I style it, but I know that the only way I can totally tame my mane is by using a substantial amount of heat. That means I dry, then straighten, then style.

When I’ve used dryers with AI in the past, such as the Dyson Airwrap i.d., the main thing that stands out to me is the frizz I’m left with afterwards. The Dyson performs a lot better than other stylers I’ve tried, but there’s still that undeniable puff due to the lack of heat. And the dryer is right (in theory) to decrease the heat to protect my hair a little more, but it’s not what my specific hair type needs.

I have come up with a routine filled with heat protectant, and it works extremely well for me. I also know that due to the thickness of my hair, I need a lot of power, and the original Dreame Hair Miracle can give me that. Even the lowest setting on the original Hair Miracle is enough to dry my hair in under seven minutes.

But could it be for you?

With that said, while the Dreame Hair Miracle Pro with AI isn’t for me, it could be for you. Depending on your hair type and hair needs, it has the potential to be the best secret weapon in your hair styling arsenal.

If you have been struggling with breakage from overusing heat, the Pro is probably a great option for you. And if you’re just looking for the latest techy upgrade for your home, this is a great way to feel like you're having feedback from your hair care. It would also be ideal for anyone on a hair growth journey, as the red light technology can help with protecting the scalp. And a healthy scalp equals healthy hair growth.

So the new dryer is pretty much a spa day for your hair and scalp, but I don’t think you need that treatment after every single hair wash. You’ll be able to find out more about the dryer when we review the new version very soon.
