I cut my grocery bill by switching to these 5 household Amazon brands — and I'm never going back
Make the swap and start saving
The rising cost of living has seriously made a dent in my household's grocery shopping expenses. And like many, I’m finding new ways to save money, whether it be cutting down my electric bill or practising these easy household tips that won’t break the bank.
I used to spend a fortune on household essentials since I’ve always been a loyal fan of specific brands. However, since I spend far too much time shopping online, I decided to swap my usual purchases for Amazon's generic alternatives. The result? My grocery bills are no longer sky-high, and I have saved around $50 each time I shop.
What’s more, I've noticed absolutely no dip in the quality of Amazon's own basic brands (compared to what I’d bought before), and I'm pleased with the outcome. So if you're looking to boost your savings, here are the cheaper swaps I made — and haven’t looked back.
I always need more food storage bags, whether I'm batch-cooking, doing packed lunches, or trying to save space in the refrigerator. And Amazon’s own brand of food storage bags is an absolute steal, especially at $6. Better still, there are 120 in a pack and bags come with a double zipper seal, stand and BPA Free, which are usually double in price ordinarily.
If there’s one thing I can't stand, it's streaks or fingerprints on my mirrors and glass in my home, so I’m constantly cleaning them to keep them spotless. In fact, I used to quickly go through bottles of my preferred glass cleaner brand before opting for Amazon’s generic brand. Not only did it do a decent job, but the savings I got from switching make it even more impressive. What's more, at just $7 for a two-pack, this is the same price I would usually pay for a single bottle.
Aluminum foil is an absolute staple in my kitchen. I use it constantly, whether I'm roasting a tasty dish or just wrapping my son's sandwiches for lunch. So I was pleasantly surprised to see Amazon’s version for everyday use. At 250 sq ft, I've found this version lasts me longer than the usual branded one I buy. Since I often purchase foil in bulk, I'm always well-stocked — plus I make a saving. Win-win!
As a self-proclaimed clean freak, I make sure every surface is cleaned daily using disinfecting wipes, as I prefer them to regular sprays. Trouble is, I’d often run out of wipes quickly — and I’d end up spending over $20 each time on my usual brand. Since switching to Amazon’s generic brand, it gives me four packs of 80 wipes — all for just $14. Not only has it saved me spare change, but my home is sparkling and smelling fresh.
Paper towels are another essential I constantly restock. In fact, we go through rolls quickly for everything from drying hands to wiping spills and cleaning countertops. But it was also expensive — until I started buying paper towels in bulk from Amazon and managed to cut the cost. At just $22 for a pack of 12 rolls, that’s an absolute bargain.
