Casabrews 3700 Essential

Casabrews 3700 Essential
Casabrews 3700 Essential: was $129 now $99 at Amazon

If you want an espresso machine but you're on a very strict budget, the Casabrews 3700 Essential is the perfect machine for you. I actually prefer this over other Casabrews models: I find it works just as well as Casabrews' $150+ machines. There's no need to spend extra when the 3700 Essential is right here.

I awarded the Casabrews 3700 Essential 4 stars in my review, and for good reason. This machine performs like a much pricier option. Obviously, it's still only $129, but for a super-cheap espresso machine, the 3700 Essential is everything you could want and more.

If you're a beginner user, the 3700 Essential is the ideal first machine. You don't have to purge the boiler like you do on the Casabrews CM5418, which means it's easier to master. The 3700 Essential is as simple as this: put your coffee in the portafilter, press the shot button, and watch your espresso pour. It's as easy as that.

I'm not trying to say it's perfect — obviously, a $129 espresso machine won't make espresso like a $1,000 machine — but for the price? Casabrews has played an absolute blinder. If you're a bit of an espresso snob, you might need to make an additional purchase like a bottomless portafilter or a new tamper, but if you're just dipping your toes into the world of coffee, I can't recommend this machine enough.

De'Longhi Classic

De'Longhi Classic
De'Longhi Classic : was $229 now $179 at Amazon

The De'Longhi Classic is that — a classic. This is a great mid-range espresso machine, and even better at its discounted price of $179. It has 15-bar pressure, which is ideal for perfect espresso, and has two steam wand power settings.

Although I've not personally tested this machine, I have tested its younger sibling, the De'Longhi Stilosa, which I awarded 4 stars in my review. I utterly adore the Stilosa, and many of its features are present or even upgraded on the Classic — so I know I'd love the Classic, too.

De'Longhi machines are all easy to use (I've tested enough of them by now!) and ideal for beginners. There's no frustrating boiler purging nonsense that super-cheap machines suffer from, and De'Longhi's steam wands are powerful without being overzealous. One of my colleagues is a total coffee beginner, and she adores her Stilosa. She has even taught herself how to pour latte art — which, considering she'd never touched an espresso machine before a month or so ago, I'm really impressed.

Technivorm Moccamaster 10-Cup

Technivorm Moccamaster 10-cup
Technivorm Moccamaster 10-cup: was $359 now $314 at Amazon

The Moccamaster is the icon of the coffee world and for good reason. If you've never used a Moccamaster and you're serious about coffee, you need to get your hands on one. I tested the Moccamaster One-Cup earlier in the year, and it utterly blew me away.

The gorgeous orange Moccamaster above is the One-Cup, whereas the 10-Cup is discounted. I personally reviewed the One-Cup (the orange model), and I immediately fell in love. It's so easy to use, with minimal funnelling, and brews a delectable cup of coffee.

Technivorm is renowned for its high-quality products, and pretty much every coffee lover you speak to will wax lyrical about the Moccamaster series. But not enough people mention the best part — Technivorm actually offers a 5-year warranty (and lifetime repairs), so you know its products are well-made. If the brand is that confident in the products, that kind of says it all, doesn't it?
