When is 'Eternity' streaming? Here's our best guess

"Eternity" might not be an Oscar contender, but this rom-com starring Elizabeth Olsen as a woman deciding which dead husband to spend the afterlife with is one of my favorite movies of 2025. In fact, it's probably the best romantic comedy I've seen in years, thanks to clever writing and excellent chemistry.

I'm not alone in praising this movie either. On Rotten Tomatoes, critics rate it a passable 77%, but audiences love "Eternity," rating it 91% fresh on the Popcornmeter. But if you're reading this, there's a good chance you haven't seen it yet; "Eternity" has made just over $5.4 million at the box office so far. And, let's be honest, if you didn't see it opening week, there's a good chance you're just waiting to stream "Eternity" at home.

Where can you stream 'Eternity'?

As of right now, "Eternity" is still playing in theaters following its Nov. 26 U.S. release. But if you’re waiting to watch it from home, you'll have a couple of options.

First, once "Eternity" has been in theaters for a bit, it'll then enter its premium video on-demand (PVOD) window. At that point, you'll be able to buy or rent it from digital storefronts such as Amazon, Apple and Fandango at Home. You can already pre-order it at Amazon and Fandango.

Then, a few months after that, you'll be able to stream "Eternity" at home on HBO Max as part of your subscription. That's because the movie is distributed by A24, which has a deal to debut its movies on HBO Max when they're ready to head to streaming video-on-demand (SVOD) services.

When can you stream 'Eternity'?

Since "Eternity" is an A24 movie, I can make an educated guess as to when you'll be able to stream it on various platforms. Earlier this year, the romantic comedy "Materialists" waited about five weeks from its theatrical debut before hitting PVOD services like Amazon, Apple and others. "Babygirl," last year's A24 erotic thriller film, also followed a similar pattern.

Based on that math, "Eternity" should be available to buy or rent digitally starting around Dec. 30, and you can already pre-order it from several platforms.

As for when "Eternity" will hit SVOD services, where you can watch with a subscription you might already have, that's something I can also predict with some certainty. Like I already mentioned, A24 sends its movies to HBO Max after they finish their theatrical and PVOD runs, thanks to a streaming deal between the two companies. The window for that is usually around 12-15 weeks from the theatrical release date, sometimes a little less.

If "Eternity" follows the same track as its A24 cohort, then "Eternity" should be able to stream on HBO Max in early April 2026. "Babygirl" took 12 weeks from PVOD debut to SVOD debut, while "Materialists" took 15 weeks, so this prediction would sit right in the middle of that range.

Spoiler alert: Everyone dies in "Eternity." That's because this movie is set almost entirely in the afterlife. It centers around Joan (Elizabeth Olsen), who dies about a week after her husband, Larry (Miles Teller). She arrives at a hotel conference where you can pick your "eternity" — somewhere to spend the rest of your life, with or without your soulmate.

Waiting there for her is Larry, who, like Joan, is now a younger version of himself. But he's not the only dead husband waiting for Joan. Her first husband, Luke (Callum Turner), died in the Korean War and has been waiting for her for decades, bartending in this version of limbo while hoping one day he'd get a chance to spend eternity with her. Now, she has to choose who she joins in the afterlife — and hilarity ensues.
