Netflix’s new romantic drama series might be the cozy binge-watch you need to beat the January blues
‘Finding Her Edge’ is already climbing the top 10
It’s that time of year when streaming a binge-worthy series feels almost essential. Winter Storm Fern has blanketed dozens of U.S. states with snow and ice, so if you’re stuck at home in need of a cozy watch to boost your mood, Netflix’s top 10 is usually a safe bet. For me, the easiest shows to dive into are often romances, and “Finding Her Edge” has quickly glided onto the streamer’s trending list since it dropped on January 22.
Sports dramas are clearly the flavor of the moment, with “Heated Rivalry” emerging as a breakout hit that’s already earned a second season on HBO Max, and now “Finding Her Edge” is gaining traction in the world of winter sports. Whether it’s the perfect setting or simply the show’s charming appeal, subscribers are clearly flocking to the new drama. I wouldn’t be surprised if it climbs to No. 1 in the coming days.
Not to mention the show has already scored a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes (although, that’s just from a handful of reviews). If you’re in need of a lighter show to binge-watch this week, or are simply curious about Netflix’s latest hit, here’s everything to know about “Finding Her Edge” and whether it deserves a spot on your watchlist.
What is ‘Finding Her Edge’ about?
“Finding Her Edge” follows seventeen-year-old Adriana Russo (Madelyn Keys), a former competitive figure skater whose family’s iconic ice rink is facing financial collapse. When her older sister is sidelined, Adriana returns to the ice and teams up with new partner Brayden Elliot (Cale Ambrozic) to train for the World Championships in hopes of attracting sponsors and saving the struggling Russo Rink.
To secure the funding they need, Adriana and Brayden agree to present themselves publicly as a couple, even though her former skating partner and first love, Freddie O’Connell (Olly Atkins), is back in her life and now skating with someone else. Throughout the season, Adriana juggles the demands of elite competition, the pressures of securing a major sponsorship, and the challenges of her personal relationships.
Should you stream ‘Finding Her Edge’ on Netflix?
Anyone who enjoys a bit of fake dating and a messy love triangle will likely enjoy “Finding Her Edge,” since it leans heavily on those tropes. Based on Jennifer Iacopelli’s 2022 novel of the same name, the series follows two sisters trying to keep their family’s skating legacy alive after their mother’s death. With her father facing financial difficulties, Adriana teams up with the skilled but arrogant Brayden, hoping their undeniable on-ice chemistry will help them succeed. To raise the stakes, they present themselves as a couple, even though Adriana still has lingering feelings for her former skating partner, Freddie.
“Finding Her Edge” wastes no time cramming in these tropes (given that love triangles have been huge since the success of Prime Video’s adaptation of “The Summer I Turned Pretty”) and there seems to be plenty of yearning to make you root for the central leads. Because the show is marketed as YA, it naturally has a very simple plot, which means other characters and the storyline about a failing ice rink don’t get much depth. But if you’re primarily here for the romance, this series definitely delivers the drama.

As mentioned before, “Finding Her Edge” currently has a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes from seven reviews (keep in mind that could change over time), with audiences rating it at 63%. Isabella Soares from Collider said: “All things considered, if you're looking for a YA drama that is easy-to-watch, aimless fun, Finding Her Edge does fit the bill.” Pop Culture Planet’s Kristen Maldonado stated the show is “at its best when it leans into Adriana and Brayden’s connection,” so clearly there’s no lack of juicy romance in the world of ice skating.
“Finding Her Edge” has yet to be renewed for a second season by Netflix, so hopefully we won’t be left with another canceled show ending on a teaser. Speaking to Swoon about a potential renewal in the future, the cast said, “There are so many wonderful things that we set up in season 1. There are so many wonderful characters that we’ve put together.” With its spot in the top 10 (and the chance to climb higher), this series could cement itself as a recurring YA hit for the streamer. For now, anyone wanting an easy binge-watch packed with tension should add this to their watchlist, but if you're not feeling it, see what's new on Netflix this week.
