Sandra Hüller is currently delighting viewers as part of the cast in the No. 1 movie in America, “Project Hail Mary.” While star Ryan Gosling (and the universe’s biggest bro, Rocky) are getting most of the plaudits, Hüller's performance as head of a world-saving scientific project isn’t to be overlooked. But to anybody who saw “Anatomy of a Fall” a couple of years back, it’s no surprise to see the German actress starring in a fantastic flick.
The good news is that “Anatomy of a Fall” just arrived on Netflix, and it’s a masterful legal thriller movie that scored five Oscar nominations, including an acting nod for Hüller, and won Best Original Screenplay. In the two years since its release, my love for this gripping watch has only increased, and I’m delighted to have an excuse to stream it again now it’s just arrived on the world’s biggest streaming service as part of its March 2026 movie slate.
If you’re looking for your next can't-miss Netflix movie, your search is effectively over. Here’s why “Anatomy of a Fall” is an intelligent thriller that combines excellent performances, sharp writing, and a central mystery that will have you mulling things over long after the credits have rolled.

Sandra (Sandra Hüller) and Samuel (Samuel Theis) are a married couple living with her visually-impaired young son, Daniel (Milo Machado-Graner), in a picturesque home in the remote French Alps. But their marriage is far from perfect; in fact, it seems pretty rocky.
When Samuel is found dead in the snow, apparently having fallen from a second-story balcony, investigators have one question: Did Samuel fall to his death, or was he pushed? Sandra is charged with homicide, and as the trial date nears, the couple’s fractured marriage comes to light, with flashbacks revealing a union that was anything but marital bliss.
Meanwhile, Daniel is forced to decide which version of events he believes to be true, as his testimony could decide if his mother returns home or will spend the rest of her life in prison.
Why ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ needs to be in your Netflix watchlist
“Anatomy of a Fall” offers no easy answers. This isn’t a dramatic thriller where the truth is easy to read, and it’s just about watching investigators slowly reach that same conclusion. Instead, it challenges you to consider the evidence for yourself and decide what you think happened. That’s part of the reason I love it so much; it’s a movie with faith in its viewers' intelligence.
With an Oscar-winning screenplay, it should come as little surprise when I say it’s supremely well-scripted. The film’s authenticity emphasizes quieter, character-driven moments, rather than over-the-top melodrama. The back half of the flick might take place in a courtroom, but there are no shocking third-act outbursts or stunning, but extremely illogical, finale twists.
Hüller leads an all-around stellar cast, and while the actress is phenomenal throughout, there is one flashback where she finds another gear and delivers the movie’s best moment. I have to immediately rewatch this incredible scene anytime I think about “Anatomy of a Fall.” Writer/director Justine Triet expertly builds the tension between characters across the movie’s runtime, building to a thoughtful ending that leaves you much still to ponder.
I’m certainly not alone in my high opinion of “Anatomy of a Fall.” On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a very impressive 96% score. The site’s critics' summary reads, “A smart, solidly crafted procedural that's anchored in family drama, Anatomy of a Fall finds star Sandra Hüller and director/co-writer Justine Triet operating at peak power.” And viewers are clearly in agreement with critics, rating it an equally strong 91%. This movie is definitely beloved.
If you missed “Anatomy of a Fall” when it landed in theaters, or when it was making waves during the 2024 awards season, its arrival on Netflix is a chance to right that wrong. Out of everything new on Netflix this week, I believe it’s the one movie you need to watch first.
