I trained for two years in the Nike Metcon 9 shoe — and it just dropped to $91 for Prime Day
One of Nike's most iconic Metcon shoes dropped below $100 during Prime Day sales.

Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days sale is drawing to a close, but I just spotted a deal you won't want to miss. The Nike Metcon 9, which, as an avid CrossFitter, I have trained in since its release roughly two years ago, just dropped below $100.
If you love stocking up on training sneakers, you'll already know how expensive they are. Getting hold of a decent Metcon for under $100 is a total bargain, but you'll need to move fast.
Here's how to shop the deal, and why you might want to upgrade your kicks. Plus, don’t miss our Amazon promo codes and the best Prime Day deals under $50.
The rope guard instantly divided crowds when this shoe was released, but if you enjoy climbing ropes, you'll love the feature. Aside from that, the Metcon 9 looks slick and comes in an array of colorways for you to choose from. It's a little stiffer and more stable than the latest Metcon 10, which makes it arguably less versatile. However, it has great stability for technical lifting and is far more comfortable than its predecessor, the 8, which I wouldn't buy. I've trained pretty happily in these on and off over the years, and they're still a staple in my shoe cupboard.
Why should you buy the Nike Metcon 9?
Although there are CrossFit alternatives, the shoe really does handle weightlifting well, so for technical lifts, you're in safe hands.
I would size up; the Metcon 10 is a lot roomier for toe splay, but this shouldn't be too much of a problem if you pick your shoe size carefully. If you enjoy training socks, it's a must.
As I said, the extended rope guard isn't for everyone, but I do appreciate the grip it provides, and a raised groove at the medial toe box also improves climbs. There's an improved Hyperlift plate that adds drop and dual density midsole foam for a little more comfort than you get from the 8. You won't be comfortably running maybe more than a mile in these, but they can handle the short distances you'd find in CrossFit classes.
For less than $100, getting hold of the 9s is a bargain, and if I didn't already own them, I'd be shopping them straight away.
