I test outdoor apparel for a living — my go-to jackets from The North Face, Arc'teryx and Columbia are up to 57% off for Prime Day

Coaching outdoor sports activities is all fun and games during spring and summer, but as we steamroll toward winter, the nights get colder and darker, and I start to quickly reconsider my wardrobe choices.

Three of my favorite jackets to keep me warm during the cooler months are currently discounted at Amazon during the October Prime Day sales. Given that I have lived in these jackets, I can tell you all the reasons why shopping for these deals is worth your money.

For example, The North Face Crest 1/4 Zip is over 50% off at Amazon right now, and it's versatile enough for men and women to wear. I've rounded up my three favorite deals — I plan to update with more that I have tried and tested as and when I spot a deal worth knowing about.

Amazon Apparel Deals

Columbia Men's Ascender Softshell Jacket
Over 50% off
Columbia Men's Ascender Softshell Jacket: was $125 now $53 at Amazon

This Columbia softshell is a fall staple and comes in a beautiful range of colors. It's water and wind-resistant, and the men's size and shape range actually lends itself to women, too. This model also comes with a brasion-resistant chin guard, zippered chest, hand pockets, adjustable cuffs, and an adjustable hem. I have battled some serious elements in this one.

The North Face Men's Crest 1/4 Zip
42% off!
The North Face Men's Crest 1/4 Zip: was $120 now $69 at Amazon

I will always jump on The North Face sales because it isn't the cheapest brand otherwise. When it's chilly but not wet, I turn to this quarter zip, which feels roomy in the men's range and works well as a midlayer. It's made with recycled polyester and a soft midweight fleece, bringing cozy comfort but still allowing me to move and teach freely, and it has handy phone storage.

Arc'teryx Atom SL Jacket Women's
30% off
Arc'teryx Atom SL Jacket Women's: was $260 now $182 at Amazon

You are limited on colors, but who cares when a jacket delivers this well? It has lasted the winter with barely a mark on it, and is super lightweight during activity while repelling water on rainy days. I'm also always surprised by how breathable yet warm it is, and I can throw another jacket on top if I need that extra layer in the depths of January. It feels fitted, though, which is why I love a similar men's Arc'teryx jacket for a larger fit (also discounted).
