No one is immune to the odd accidental spill or and stain, but if you've invested in the best mattress for your sleep, it's only fair that it gets top level protection. Which is why we've worked hard to find and crown the Best Mattress Protector out there.
After testing popular options on the market and gauging them against parameters such as waterproofing, comfort, breathability and maintenance, our review panel has chosen the Coop Sleep Goods Ultra Tech Waterproof Mattress Protector, after it scored an impressive 4.5/5 stars in our review.
The award is part of our Tom's Guide Sleep Awards, which includes the best of the best in everything from mattresses and pillows, to bedding and sleep tech. So scroll down to find out exactly why the Coop Sleep Goods Ultra-Tech Waterproof made the cut.
Breathable, noiseless and fully waterproof
The job of a mattress protector is to act as a barrier against sweat, body oils, liquids, dust and allergens, ensuring your mattress stays fresh, clean and lasts for longer.
A truly excellent mattress protector will do all this while remaining inobtrusive on your bed; comfortable, you won't hear or feel it, and it won't impact the temperature of your sleep space. In almost all these areas, the Coop Sleep Goods Ultra Tech Waterproof Mattress Protector excelled.
Crafted from OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified Lulltra fabric (a blend of polyester and bamboo-derived viscose rayon) and 100% polyurethane backing, the Ultra Tech Waterproof Mattress Protector functions like a fitted sheet (with an 18" pocket depth), is dust-and sweat-resistant, hypoallergenic and absolutely delivers on its promise of being fully waterproof.
During our Coop Ultra Tech Waterproof Mattress Protector review, our tester put it through multiple spill tests with water, coffee and tea, and the protector didn't let a drop through. Even after multiple wash and dry cycles, which can wear down the waterproofing, it consistently blocked out any liquid from seeping into the mattress.

Another highlight is the breathable Lulltra fabric which kept our lead reviewer, a hot sleeper, comfortable throughout the night. This is largely thanks to the bamboo in the material, which is naturally moisture-wicking and cooling.
Since cheap mattress protectors can significantly impact the temperature of your bed, it's worth finding one that doesn't cause overheating.
Aside from the key parameters of actually protecting your mattress and temperature regulation, this Coop protector also has another useful string to its bow.
Polyurethane (PU) used in mattress protectors can crinkle and rustle, which at best, is annoying and at worst, disrupts sleep. Even rigorous shifting of sleep positions and moving around in bed failed to elicit any noise from the Ultra Tech Waterproof Mattress Protector.
It's even easy to care for, you pop it in the washing machine on a gentle cold cycle and either tumble dry or air dry.
And with 25% off in the current Black Friday mattress sales, prices start at a very affordable $34.50 ($46 MSRP) for a twin. This price point is especially good when compared to the other premium options like the Purple Waterproof Mattress Protector, which currently starts at $95 ($119 MSRP) and the Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector that has a starting price of $69.30 ($99 MSRP).
Plus, the Ultra Tech Waterproof Mattress Protector also comes with a 100-night sleep trial, one-year warranty and free shipping.
But, we'd be remiss not to mention the one downside to this otherwise excellent protector: the slipperiness, which brought down the overall score by 0.5. The PU backing might make this protector noiseless, but our reviewer found it also moves easily when being fitted to the bed, and beneath the body when changing positions at night.
Even factoring that in, we think the comfort, 100% waterproofing and breathability this Coop protector offers for the price, makes it a deserving winner of the Best Mattress Protector award.
