The weather outside might be frightful, but watching Prime Video movies by the fire is so delightful. And if you’re putting together your Prime Video watchlist for the weekend, and need a little help picking out the recent gems added to the streaming service library, I’m here to help.

I’ve combed through Prime Video’s December 2025 slate and picked out a trio of movies worth considering, from a true cinema classic, often regarded among the best films ever made, to an original sci-fi with some eye-popping visual effects. Oh, and also, one of the most controversial sequels ever, which is definitely one for the morbidly curious only.

‘12 Angry Men’ (1957)

Prime Video added the enduring classic “12 Angry Men” at the start of the month, and this legal drama is always worth watching. After all, it’s frequently cited as one of the greatest films ever made. Directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Henry Fonda, it manages to turn a single-location, dialogue-heavy setup into one of the most gripping movies you will ever watch. And while it may be set to celebrate its 70th birthday in the near future, it remains as timeless as ever, with its commentary on the nature of justice still sparking conversation to this day.

Set over a sweltering summer's day in New York City, a dozen jurors convene to determine the guilt of a young boy accused of murdering his abusive father. Initially, all but one of the jurors (who each remain nameless throughout) believe the boy committed the crime, but Juror No. 8 (Fonda) believes there could be reasonable doubt in the case. What follows is an intense discussion as each juror’s perspective on the world is revealed, and their own morals and convictions are challenged.

‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ (2024)

Yes, calling “Joker: Folie à Deux” a “movie you need to stream” is quite the stretch. I’ll admit that, like many viewers, I was thoroughly confused and disappointed by the approach taken in this follow-up to 2019’s breakout hit “Joker.” But if you’re the morbidly curious type, and skipped “Joker 2” when it arrived in cinemas, it’s now on Prime Video, letting you check out this highly controversial follow-up without having to shell out for a pricey movie theater ticket, and with the ability to fast-forward through the pretty darn wretched musical numbers.

Opening with a bizarre animated sequence and only getting more questionable from there, “Joker: Folie à Deux” sees Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) in Arkham State Hospital awaiting trial for his crimes committed in the first “Joker” movie. While struggling with his mental illness and his growing stature as a cult anti-hero to Gotham City’s underclass, he meets Harleen Qunizel (Lady Gaga), a fellow inmate. The two develop a warped romance. There are a few interesting ideas here, but the execution is largely butchered and far too self-indulgent.

‘The Creator’ (2023)

What “The Creator” lacks in narrative drive, it makes up for with impressive world-building. It might not offer characters you truly grow to care about, but even on a more restricted budget compared to other blockbuster sci-fi movies, it manages to construct a vision of the future that feels almost tangible. There's no doubt, “The Creator’s” greatest strengths come via its visuals, which prove to be enough to hold your attention until the end. Just don’t ask me to name a single character.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, who has extensive experience in sci-fi, having helmed “Star Wars: Rogue One” and the 2014 “Godzilla” reboot, “The Creator” is set in 2055 and constructs a bleak future where humanity is at war with its own AI creation. Joshua (John David Washinton) is an ex-special forces agent who is tasked with hunting down the creator of this advanced artificial intelligence, who might just hold the secrets to winning the war for good. But when Joshua learns the supposed “AI-ending weapon” is actually a young child (Madeleine Yuna Voyles), his humanity and motivations are tested.
