'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle' (2017)

We just learned the full title of the forthcoming "Jumanji" threequel, "Jumanji: Open World," at CinemaCon 2026, and I have to wonder whether the buzz around that next adventure is the reason why this first movie in the modern "Jumanji" trilogy has crept back into Netflix's charts. Whether or not my hunch is right, "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" is nevertheless a likeable family action-comedy, and it'd make a fine addition to your weekend watchlist.

Taking place two decades after the events of the original movie, "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" follows a group of teenagers who become trapped inside a "Jumanji" video game. Together, they're forced to play through its levels as one of a set of adult avatars: Dr. Xander "Smolder" Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), Franklin "Mouse" Finbar (Kevin Hart), Professor Sheldon "Shelly" Oberon (Jack Black), and Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan).

'KPop Demon Hunters' (2025)

Yes, I know that "KPop Demon Hunters" is Netflix's most-watched movie of all time, and therefore everyone who was going to stream it probably already has, but seeing as I'm calling out the best movies in Netflix's charts, I'm not going to overlook this animated, Oscar-winning phenomenon.

If you missed out on all the hype last year, "KPop Demon Hunters" follows the three members of KPop band HUNTRIX: Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo). They aren't just worldwide pop sensations, though: as the title suggests, they're also demon hunters, working tirelessly to keep their fans safe from an ever-present supernatural threat. When we meet them in the movie, they cross paths with their biggest enemy yet — a charming, talented boy band of demons in disguise.

'Roommates' (2026)

Netflix's newest original movie was the first feature to steal the No. 1 spot from "Thrash" since that thriller debuted on the platform last week. In my opinion, this new R-rated comedy is also far more deserving of a shout-out than that so-so shark movie. TG's Rory Mellon agrees: he branded the new release "funny, likeable and more than a little relatable" in his 3.5-star "Roommates" review.

"Roommates" introduces us to college freshmen Devon (Sadie Sandler) and her new roommate, Celeste (Chloe East). The pair meet at their outdoor orientation program, and become inseparable the moment they set foot on campus. However, as they work through the ups and downs of freshman year, Devon starts to feel increasingly irritated by (and distrustful of) her new pal, and the tension threatens to boil over "during a fateful, karaoke-fueled spring break in Panama City."
